So... why are they reviving this again? I also suspect the revival, with no real big stars (except for the 15 minutes of fame the winners will have), will close pretty soon after it opens.
Until they stunt cast, which is imminent.

i really dont want another revival of this...
the only interesting thing about this will be that Kathleen Marshall is directing...that's about it
oh well, as bobby said...we havent seen it yet, so we cant really judge it now
I don't have a problem with the revival of Grease, it's the whole reality contest TV show thing. I just don't think that Broadway roles should be given away when the public votes.
The reality show is called YOU'RE THE ONE THAT WE WANT. Do these producers know that the song "You're the One That I Want" from the movie is NOT in the show?
The last revival closed 8 years ago. This is ridiculous. What a waste of a theater.
If they want to bring "Grease" back fine... However, I agree why don't they use some of the starving actors out there on Broadway that need a job?!?!?
Because this makes NBC money. That's why.

Has it come to this?
Grease is a fun enough little show, but to whore it up with a proported reality television show? Save me from excessive joy.
Reality shows are about as real as computer generated effects with less heart and more calculation.
If it was 'real' we would see the open calls, all the open calls, the winnowing process sitting with the pix and resumes, the crosstalk, the callbacks.
But we would see all this, not just selected highlights that can be squeezed into an hour.
Do a nice little proction of Grease with some members of the OC cast and toss it out on the road.
Kathleen Marshall ought to rethink her career path.
I feel sick.
Imagine the paycheck Kathleen Marshall's getting for this. More money than she will ever make on Broadway in her entire career.
But hey guys - look at it this way. What was the last major network television series dedicated to ANY Broadway production? Any exposure for Broadway is a good thing, even if it is tied to GREASE.

Grease at the Brooks Atkinson Theater... sounds about right. Stellar line-up of shows there if that is true.

This idea, just like all the celebrity stunt casting phenomenon, is just unfair to Broadway actors who are trying to make it by pure talent. A lot of these celebs don't have it in their hearts and souls to be on Broadway....it's just lame.
Who says that Broadway actors can't go to the open calls and audition like everyone else?
I think it's just a revolting way to sell tickets to a completely unnecessary Broadway show.

i'm sure the producers chose grease because of how big of a hit the movie is. they can't go with a show like light in the piazza or even a show like hairspray. they need something american would be interested in watching and grease is probably one of the most popular musicals among non-theatre people. i'm not to excited about it either tho grease isn't one of my favorite shows. if the show is a big enough hit i'm sure the none star cast can draw in lots of people just from being on tv.

Actually, this revival of Grease has been planned for a while. It was in a Riedel column about 6 months ago.
Agreed Musicalfanddukie...but that doesn't make it right. Broadway already panders to the lowest common denominator. This time the joke on the American people is that the show and the movie are almost completely different.
And I would assume since the competition is only to find Danny and Sandy, that the rest of the cast will be filled with Broadway performers.
Lets play cast the other parts.
The sad part is that even if the show is remotely a hit, it WILL attract audiences to come see the show and the person they voted for. I mean, Kelly Clarkson's first single debuted at number 1 on Billboard within days of winning American Idol.
Meh, look at the bright side. It's not like it will be much competition for the best revival Tony.

Let's let her prove herself.

I have seen 5 productions of this show:
A touring production
A production at a community theatre in Norwell
A production at my town's community theatre
It was barely even a production. It was just a bunch of kids doing the movie. My friend was in it. I had to go.
A production at that same community theatre in Norwell
I think I'm all Hand Jived out.
Well, if Kathleen Marshall has anything to do with it, she WILL want it to be a MAJOR contender for Best Revival of Musical.
She'll want it to be, but Grease versus Company, ACL and Les Mis (is that eligible)? I can't imagine the Tony voters are any more excited about a Grease revival than anyone here.
i agree with the person who made mention that it's stupid to not help some of the starving Equity Actors out there and just go for a bunch of unknowns. Grease is going to end up becoming The Color Purple with a bunch of uncouth audience members screaming out because they think it's just like they saw on TV.
not to mention how many Today shows are going to inundate us with "recaps". ¤sigh¤ the television machine is just as tired as Grease is.
