Is there a release date yet for the Broadway cast recording?

I'm not sure what video you watched, but the one I watched had Great Comet theme music in the background and didn't sound lacking at all. I would hardly call it a preview of how the album will sound.

Just watched the "Sonya Alone" video.  Not sure what to say other than wow..... can't wait to see that live. Very impressive.

They released a commercial the other day that had an edited version of the Prologue, it goes from "This is all in your program..." to "chandeliers and caviar..." then into the rundown of the characters starting with "Balaga's fun, Bolkonsky is crazy.." and every time I listen to it the word Balaga literally doesn't sound anything like Balaga.

I just watched it.. if I had to guess, I think that's just the editing.... The musical transitions are very fast in Prologue, so that probably doesn't leave much room for editing. Plus, I doubt Malloy would let a cast album be released w garbled lyrics.

Tweet from Dave Malloy re: when the album will come out -

"just a few more weeks! want it to be perfect."

Weird that they haven't made any sort of announcement if it really is "just a few more weeks".

Not sure how to post a screenshot, but I've just received an email from Telecharge with a discount code and a notice about the cast album coming in May, pre order opportunities will be coming in a few days

"Natasha Lost" will not be on the Broadway cast recording. I don't understand why some songs get omitted for recordings. Disappointed, but still looking forward to the new recording nonetheless.

Didn't this number get cut and/or altered for the Broadway run?

I can't WAIT for this cast recording.  I went into this show knowing nothing about it except recognizing the name.  I'm utterly in love.  It was unlike any show I have ever attended.

Yes, Natasha Lost was cut from the show before the end of last year.  It is not a matter of it only being left of off the recording.

They're performing on GMA tomorrow.  Think they'll make the release date announcement then?

Pre-order is up on iTunes! The release date is listed as May 19, and the Prologue is available to download now.

I DO hope that it's available in advance at the theatre. We see it on the 12th - and on the 19th, we'll be on a boat in the middle of the Atlantic with very expensive and very slow internet. No matter what I may decide in advance I see a real danger that I'd give in and download it (or worse, if I have some setting wrong, that it'll start to download on the 19th by itself.)

To be fair, the announcement does say "BY May 19th"...so you might be in luck!

The release date on Canadian iTunes is July 12... a little odd that it's almost 2 months after the announced date in the U.S.  Hopefully it ends up getting released in May.

I'm not sure if you guys knew about it (since it hasn't been mentioned in this thread at all) but there was a chance for fans to be in the cast recording!  In February, The Great Comet twitter posted a form that you could put your name in and email and hopefully be chosen to be in the recording.  The recording took place on February 13th.  There are some videos about it on youtube, but basically they had from 200-400 people (I'm not quite sure how many it was hard to tell) using egg shakers for "Balaga", and singing the chorus of the part in the show that has "goodbye my gypsy lovers".  I was lucky enough to have been chosen! It was a really amazing experience and I just wanted to mention it since its a pretty unique thing that Great Comet did.   These were all also parts where it was meant to be a large amount of people.
