I'm just me! Comet was the worst that I've seen this season. Groundhog and Bronx Tale are the follow ups. Sometimes when I get a comp, I will be a bit more respectful and won't voice my opinion on the internet.
You said that you listened to the cast album before you saw the show. If you didn't like the score before you even saw it, it's your fault for buying a ticket. Yes, you've made it clear that Boulevard is the only good show running on Broadway. Shoo shoo troll.
You're right, I shouldn't have, but people like you kept telling me it makes sense "in context"---well, 2 of my friends did, and we are still on speaking terms by the way. We can disagree and still keep it classy, troll! I said Sunset is the best show on B'way, I enjoyed SOR, OYF, CFA, WP, and a few more...don't put incorrect words in my mouth :)

I can attest muscle is not a troll - he's been on these boards for at least 10 years. And sorry to post a negative thing that started this whole thing. Honestly, I was just taken aback by the video. I guess this one's (Comet) is just not my cup of tea

I saw the show this afternoon and was thinking that through the whole song. I was silently begging for a melody, and it never came. I see why people love this show, but other than the innovative concept/staging, I really did not enjoy it at all.

chemjam, this video was my only exposure to Great Comet before I saw it, and I had the same reaction as you did. I thought to myself, "Well, this seems rather dull. Why are they promoting the show with this video?"
And then I saw the musical. Brittain Ashford's live performance of "Sonya Alone" is absolutely gripping. I was shocked. The video, which I like better now that I've seen the show, simply doesn't match the intensity of the live performance - which is helped enormously by the fact that you've got context.

I think it's a decent song, and Brittain is surely talented, but her fake lisp is so annoying. I agree that they should have made a video for Charming or Letters, one of the more dynamic songs (of the few there are in this wackadoo score), IF the intent is to drum up interest and sales. I can't see this video/song persuading people to see the show if they weren't interested already. If the intent was just for the fans, then fine.

The video for Charming has been filmed and is currently being edited, so it's coming soon.

I think the song in the show is moving and heartfelt, but this video just made it so... tacky? I can't even explain why, I just didn't really like the result.

To me this is such an example of how musical theater (especially a show as amazingly theatrical as this!) must be experienced live and not prejudged listening to a recording (or watching a video). I agree with others it is a very beautiful and moving song in the context of the story/show/audience experience.
I never have any interest in listening to musical scores before attending the show for this reason. I let it all wash over me, the music, with everything else....
