I thought that at first Folkyboy and then realized that they can get more bucks this way.
The die hard fans have already bought the Off bway recording, and will buy the new one.
But the tourists will buy the new recording only probably, and if given a choice between the old recording and an EP they will probably buy one or the other, but not both, and if they buy only the EP, they lose the money they would have gotten on a whole recording.
But if they just add the songs to a new pressing of the old recording or even re-record the entire thing, both the Gardenites and the casual listener will have to buy a whole CD.

Did you hear the Broadway Bullet interview with Erin and Matt?
They sing "The Girl Who Has Everything," "Goin' Places," and the new version of "Daddy's Girl" with ERIN. .
Her accent is what the first act was missing. I loved the Off-Broadway recording, but I remember thinking "Little Edie doesn't sound much like Little Edie". . and then when I saw Erin at the show, I was like "Ahhh. . no wonder they recast the part. . "
I hope the show stays open until August when I can make it back to NYC. . I want to see it again so badly.

I hope they make it worth my while to buy a new OBC. Maybe great liner notes, cut numbers or a composer demo. Uconventional on a OBC I know, but The Drowsy Chaperone did it, so anything's possible. I know it will be great to have the BROADWAY CAST RECORDING, but seeing as I haven't entered the "buy more than one of one score" phase yet, I'd like a little bit more of a reason.
With any luck, the OOBC will become rare, Broadway will move back in vouge in 20-30 years, and I can use that to pay for my retirement.
Huh, other thought. Have there ever been any hidden tracks on a cast album?

Posted: 2/9/07 at 9:14pmthis sucks. I already inserted the new songs from the Broadway Bullet interview onto my ipod player amidst the remaining tracks from Off-Broadway recording... but, I'll buy the new one too of course.

I just bought the off-broadway recording! Oh well, I'll just buy the new songs off of itunes.
This is a Grey Gardens/Little Edie Beale question: why does Little Edie always wear a 'bandana'? did something happen to her hair? I was just wondering...

Posted: 2/9/07 at 9:51pmAs far as I can tell, she's almost entirely bald. Either way, her hair has drastically thinned. I've never been able to find a concrete reason.

Ewwww.......
Back to the topic, this is exciting news! I have been so broke that I haven't been able to buy the OOBCR...now I'll just save my money until the OBCR comes out!

I personally just hope they do a new recording. I mean, it would be cheaper just to insert the new songs, but a new recording would be great.
Possible thread-jack, but any word on the new Maysles documentary about the making of the musical?

I'm so excited for this (even though I'm a little dissapointed that they got rid of Sara, I hated her voice at first but now I adore it)
I hope they do a whole new recording, I can't get enough Grey Gardens!

Posted: 2/10/07 at 12:11amI LOVE "The Girl Who Had Everything," one of my favorite songs in the whole show. It is so beautiful and yet kind of hauntingly foreboding.

Anyone else think it is weird how right after PS Classics announces they will re-record Grey Gardens the NYT runs a hugh article by Ben about the legendary scores of Grey Gardens and Spring Awakening. Although Spring Awakening is only menioned like 3 times in the 2 page article.
Anyone? Anyone?

According the the new article, it seems that they are only rerecording the new songs and the songs involving Erin Davie.
I wonder if they are actually going to re-record the Little Edie songs. . or if they are just going to record Erin's voice and dub it into the original recordings.
That would be so cool.
Jacob.

Posted: 2/12/07 at 12:50pmhow awesome will it be to have a CD with the Broadway art work? I hope they don't stray too far like Light in the Piazza did.

I would guess that the new recording is happening to increase its chances at the Tony Awards. Every voter will be sent the new OBC CD.
The investment in a new recording has the potential to swing votes in Grey Garden's favor. Some big wins could help it recoup, get a Great Performances broadcast and a tour.
And wouldn't it actually hurt GG if they sent around an off broadway recording with a bunch of songs no longer in the show?
