I find it quite insulting for anyone to ask about a discount code for GREY GARDENS, what with the show's tragic outcome financially.
At this point in time, I would expect people to 'help' the show.
That is why I can proudly say that I have never bought a ticket at TKTS nor obtained a discount code for anything. Every show I've seen on Broadway since 1972 has been purchased at it's top ticket price. I venture into the city 4-5 times annually and every ticket I purchase for a show is always at the top ticket price.
That is MY way of supporting this struggling art form.

Quite true. Never really thought about that one, really.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Now it's time to get out of the boat again.

Brody, not everyone can afford full price and it isn't nice to shame people who are looking for a discount. Discounts are not the reason for GG's failing and certainly paying full price will not matter-it has already lost its entire investment. What is IMPORTANT is getting people into those seats to witness the glory before it closes.
I believe the code GGPLM47 works until 7/22 @ www.broadwayoffers.com

Posted: 7/7/07 at 9:39pmI definitely agree with Bettyboy72. I want to see shows but I can't afford to see every one at full price. If you polled the producers of 10 Broadway shows, all 10 would say they'd rather be 100 percent full with 50 percent of people paying half price than 50 percent full with 100 percent of people paying full price.

Posted: 7/16/07 at 11:49amI definitely don't think it's an insult to ask for a discount code, especially since the prices for Broadway shows are so high. The $112+ prices are what's insulting, not asking for a discount code.

BrodyFosse, I understand your point, but if you buy a new car, do you just pay the sticker price, or do you figure out what the "going rate" is for the vehicle and offer that? The fact is that most Broadway shows really aren't getting $110 per seat, that's just the "list" price.
At times supply and demand pressures make it possible for car dealers to sell vehicles at a premium, just as certain shows can fetch premium prices for their best seats. Discounting is the norm for most transactions these days.
ETA: Do you pay list price for cast albums as well?

Posted: 7/16/07 at 12:02pmAnd Brody, don't you live out in Nowheresville? Those of us who live in New York and see Broadway shows several times a week have no reason to spend full price. Tourists like you often don't have a choice, though.

A few things I've learned about people who constantly talk about how much money they have:
1. They really don't have that much money.
2. That is the only thing they have to offer.
3. They end up alone.

Speaking for myself Brody...
I have the rare opportunity to have a Theatre vacation in NYC next week, only the 3rd time in my lifetime. I have supported the arts for decades in the communities that I've lived in, by purchasing tickets, volunteering front of house, back stage and onstage. I have two sons in college so their is precious little left over for me. So if I choose to fly across the country and spend my hard earned monies on airfare, hotel accomadations, dining, etc, using discount codes or TKTS is the only way I can make it doable for my budget.
If it makes you feel any better, I did pay full price for my Gypsy tickets, everything else will be at the whims of the Theatre Gods and TKTS.
Perhaps when my sons receive their degrees and hit the big time in their chosen fields, I'll be able to throw a little more money around. But for now this is the only way it can be done. Besides what's more beneficial for a theatre...an empty seat or a seat sold at 30 to 50% off?
If you don't understand why people use discount codes or TKTS, oh well. Good for you to be able to pay full price. Thank you for your support.

I use discount codes because I can't afford to pay $110 for every show I see. There were a few times I paid $110, but there is no way I can do that all the time.
Why don't you also criticize the people who pay $60 to sit in the mezzanine? Hell, while we're at it, why not criticize the people who pay $110 too? They could have bought premium seats for $250.

Posted: 7/16/07 at 11:14pmBut don't you see? If you can't afford to pay $110 to see a show, then you're just not a worthwhile human being, and you should feel ashamed and small in comparison to someone of BrodyFosse's stature. Just ask Stacey.

I know I'm an inferior being for not paying full price to see every show, but Stacey ought to be proud of the two times that I did pay $110!

"I find it quite insulting for anyone to ask about a discount code for GREY GARDENS, what with the show's tragic outcome financially."
Oh, bull sh*t.
Theater isn't a struggling art form because of access to discount codes. Theater is a struggling art form because some shows just don't appeal to the general public, discounts or not. Look at Brooklyn - heavily discounted show, and it still was a financial flop. They would've probably even sold less seats (maybe even make less money) if they just decided to sell every ticket at full price.
Brody, I am insulted that you are only paying the $111.25 base price (I'm assuming that's what you meant by top ticket price) that tickets go for in the theater. Shame! Why didn't you buy premium seats? Maybe if we all buy premium seats, theater won't be struggling anymore. I hope you buy the $450 Young Frankenstein tickets too.
