For a dress rehearsal, I'd say they're doing well.

Although it's too early to tell, I think Rudin was smart for pulling out when he did...

Seeing in two weeks and I really hope it's great! For Andy's sake.

The movie was superb and has been seen by everyone. Maybe even yesterday. Even if this is very good it will still be disappointing in comparison. Rudin's exit does not portend well, but big bucks are behind this so I'm assuming the remaining producers are not amateurs, so I'll be very interested to see how this goes.

I haven't seen the movie and I'm not in any rush to see it. But looking forward in seeing the musical, especially Andy Karl!! Hope it makes the transfer!

Please post when you've seen this show or if you see stories on the show. I've only heard one song. I think it's going to be a brilliant musical but upset to hear that Rudin pulled out. I can only imagine why he'd let this one go. From the song I heard it's not going to be a "happy" musical comedy ... and he's got a lot going on with Bette coming to Broadway in 2017.

The biggest obstacle is the budget.
No idea why or how this show costs $16.5 million. That number is close to impossible to make back.

I saw those... They're nice, but nothing special, well really, for all I know the show could have a fantastic set.

I can't think of another movie to musical where the lead of the movie is drastically different in physical appearance than bill Murray to andy karl.

I saw this this evening and loved it. Still needs a tweak here and there but nothing major. It wasn't too repetitious despite the subject matter, and Andy Karl is bound to get an Olivier nom for beautifully displaying the levels and changes within Phil. The set was far more complicated than those pictures let on, and there were some great little illusions too. Score was a pretty eclectic mix of genres, and very word-y, as is Minchin's style. Some wonderful elements to create car chase etc, but saying more would spoil it. Definitely deserves to make a trip over to Broadway at some point.

Score is very Tim Minchin, fast paced lyrics and a more eclectic mix of styles than Matilda. He tweeted yesterday he wants to add a new final number, as Seeing You does feel a bit more like an 11 o'clock number (although it ending peacefully without an on your feet, dancing in the aisles number works too). It has been years since I have seen the film, so don't know how much has been lifted from the film, though a few bits definitely were. The book doesn't blow minds, but it definitely works as a vehicle and is very funny in places whilst staggeringly dark in others.

Is this production already intending to come to Broadway next season?

Saw Matilda last night and Tim Minchin's bio in the playbill said that this was opening on Broadway in spring of 2017

I saw it yesterday, and quite loved it. I didn't know what to expect, as I'm not familiar with Tim Minchin's work, nor have I seen the film.
Andy Karl was phenomenal. As someone else said, he does a wonderful job of showing the changes Phil goes through during the course of the show.
Overall, a lot of fun. I was laughing out loud at some parts, and then it would turn 180 degrees to something very dark. I hope it does make it to Broadway!

This IS good. I saw the show last night and it's already in top form and they've only been playing for two weeks. I have a feeling this is going to be HUGE.
The music and lyrics (not for children's ears) are at times fast and furious then quiet and moving at others. The scenic design is clever, with lots of revolves and the opening of act two blew my mind. Superb!
Andy Karl is absolutely incredible. He even grabs your attention in his charming way before the show has actually started ![]()
Run to see this show. It must be seen.
