Guilty pleasure musicals

Do you have one? A favorite musical that you feel a little ashamed to like so much?

I guess mine would have to be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I didn't expect to like it so much. I feel like I'm a bit too old. I saw it from the front row and Raúl and all of the other actors kept staring at me. I can't imagine why. I'm guessing it's because they are used to seeing mostly seven year olds.

I listen to this musical called Red Lips - everyone hates it but myself and my seven year old son.

Freaking love it and I don't care who knows. At first, I was so ashamed, but that got silly.

They probably stared at you simply because they can't see past the first few rows or so. Raúl's pretty big on eye-contact, though. No worries!

Same thing happened to me at Chitty. I noticed Raúl kept staring. I felt so out of place. But whatever. I really enjoyed myself.

During the Posh song, he honked that horn that he pulls up from the orchestra pit at me. Jumped about a foot in the air, but it's such a fun show. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

If watching is all you're going to do, then you're going to watch your life pass by without you.

Creeps you out, doesn't it?

I remember when I saw The Normal Heart, and he literally looked like he was making a point to make eye contact with every person in that theatre - it was small enough that he could see that far, I guess. And if he did it at the right moments, the impact was fierce.

I love the movie of Chitty, definatly a guilty pleasure, along with the movies Willie Wonka and Pete's Dragon.

My guilty pleasure show is surely The Music Man...pretty much fluff, but it was the first I ever saw live.

Ah, yes - Footloose.

I actually liked, "The Life", but that could just be because of Sam Harris' voice.

I love Grease and Birdie - and Seven Brides will always hold a sentimental part of me.

Thoroughly Modern Millie for one since the plot is really silly but I like it anyway... and Aida. Everyone I know--like my voice teacher-- bashes it... so it makes me feel guilty for loving it so much. I'm not sure what the opinion here on it is, but...

The Flower Drum Song revival too; the original version has a better plot but I like a lot of aspects of David Henry Hwang's changes and the cast... and Crazy for You, which has great music but a ridiculous plot.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

I refuse to feel guilty for loving AIDA. Perhaps a tad hypocritical, but I will never, ever let myself feel "guilty." It's not worth it. I'm aware of the flaws, and that's all I need; without it around anymore, I can't let people who hated it change what I fell so hard for.

I really like the score for Bounce. I did see it in Chicago, but I keep trying to forget that and just enjoy it's very nice recording. And as a self proclaimed theatre "snob," Phantom is a bit of a guilty pleasure, as is Spamalot.

(And for the last time, The Music Man isn't just "fluff.")
