Gypsy to Close...

February 28th. I've very saddened.

I thought I saw a post on here about it a few minutes ago but now I can't seem to find it. I'm either seeing things or it's been deleted.

re: Gypsy to Close...

Now that this turkey will close I look forward to seeing Bernadette soon in something she is right for. This is a dreadful production that soon will be forgotten. ( For the sake of all involved). I love this musical and I hope that in years to come it gets a revival worthy of its quality. And by the way; Angela Lansbury will be on Larry King Tonight.

Yes, thought I was going crazy. I just posted it, and now it's gone. Hmmm.

Anyway, I am very sad to hear that the show is closing. We sure need this economy to pick up fast or a lot of our favorite shows could find themselves in trouble.

I really liked this revival.. especially Bernadette. This leaves another theatre open for something.

I'm surprised they closed it just because of the weather. Winter doesn't last forever!

This is only my second year living in NYC but it seems like an unusual amount of shows have closed this session.

YAY! Now we get David Burtka and Kate reinders into better roles in other shows that REALLY let them shine..

Hopefully we will have Tammy Blanchard and John Dossett back again VERY soon...

come to think of it.. when does Dick Latessa plan on bowing out of Hairspray?? Get John to the Neil Simon!

and hopefully ensemble member Julie Martell will be back again VERY soon as well

"Another" empty theatre? Are there other theatres that are currently empty?

I have read so many shows plan on 2004 or 2005 Broadway productions, but I do not see how it is possible for a dozen new shows to come in that time, if the rest do not leave.

Let's see if I remember all that is coming:

Batman
Shrek
Peter Pan
Mame
Tarzan and/or Little Mermaid
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Possibly Mary Poppins

Damn, I know I am missing some BIG ones...
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Two-thirds of announced shows never open. Batman's been on the list for about 5 years now. So has The Color Purple, Moonstruck, Camille Claudel, The Great Ostrovsky, Dirty Dancing, and countless others. Until the press hits, don't count on it.

Don't forget Cabaret and Nine, which also come under 'winter'.

I'm not surprised Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has cancelled its run; the London critics picked up heavily on how pantomime-ish it was (this is not a compliment) and out of school holidays it is not overly busy. It's recouped its investment however, so who says never?

What is the website that gives the list of all Broadway theatres and which ones are dark right now? I can't remember it and someone just posted it the other day in a thread.
