A poster on ATC reports that the touring company of HAIR will play the St. James for the summer post-AMERICAN IDIOT, after which ON A CLEAR DAY... will take up the space for the fall.

In looking at HAIR's current road schedule, there seems to be a gap with no bookings between June 26th and October 4th.

Does anyone know anything further?

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

There were rumors about in the thread where some guy talks about how he loves Hair. It was commented that the show is coming back to New York and to Broadway and that there were going to be a couple of theatres vacant or soon to be vacant that wouldn't have anyone in them until the fall.

It wouldn't surprise me if this happens, but I am not sure that this is a good idea. The public interest died out around the time of the cast change. Everyone who had wanted to see it at that point did see it and the show closed not too long thereafter. However, I don't know and we shall see. I will say this, I do find it funny that there are rumors of The St. James afoot and when I was at the first preview of Finian's Rainbow, I did run into James Rado there.

I hope you didn't hurt James Rado when you ran into him

Twas me who posted that information - and yes, that is the plan.

I think HAIR coming back to the city for the summer is a really fun idea. Remember this is going to be for a very limited run - just a couple of months.

I think its also pretty likely that we will see a couple of other musicals currently on Broadway closing before July, so truthfully, I think its presence will be welcome in the later summer months when a lot of theatres are often dark.

If this is true I will be SO HAPPY
I miss Hair so much!!!!!

I do wonder tho is the St. James too big?

Any idea when tickets will go sale?

I think the St. James is a little bigger than is ideal, but its really the only Jujamycyn theatre available (and the entire reason for bringing the tour of HAIR in is presumably so that plumb musical house doesn't have to sit empty for six months.)

HAIR died down after the cast change simply because the replacement cast was no where near the high levels that the original revival cast was. I did like Diana and Jeanette, but Kyle was a terrible Claude. And I liked him in Spring Awakening as Mellchior. But in HAIR, he did nothing.

I wouldn't be shocked if they did. The tour is very profitable, and the summer months shouldn't hurt the grosses of actually coming back to Broadway. Hopefully, it happens.

If this happens, I don't even know how I'll be able to express how thrilled I would be.

I know you. I know you. I know you.

This probably goes without saying, but the tour cast is excellent. I saw it last month and I had a ball. I hope this works out well for them- I love this show.

Tour cast was AMAZING when I caught the show here in LA a few months ago...The entire production was exceptional and was just was excellent as when I saw HAIR on Broadway right before it opened.

From a business perspective, it will be interesting to see if this does in fact happen...

I'd definitely be grateful to have it back. I caught the tour out here, and really do miss it.

I remember how there was a rumor that "Beauty and the Beast" would come back to Broadway for the holiday season, but that was completley false.

I'd buy a ticket.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I've been in a Hair mood as of late... Even listened to the album today. Maybe because spring is in the air.

Would LOVE if it returned.... Even if I did just arrange a trip to visit a tour city when it was in town (such as book the airfare two days ago!). Exciting rumor. Crossing my fingers that it returns!!!

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

I was at the St. James box office yesterday and asked the man working and he said it's most likely going to happen and if It did the box office would open in June and the show would run July and August.

I think that was his way of telling me its happening without actually saying YES it's happening

^ The fact that he knows all these dates definitely indicates that it is happening. I already decided that I will be in the city every week to see the show.

Someone in the touring cast told to me that it will hopefully be coming back to Broadway this summer. So it sounds like it's not definite but it sounds pretty promising!!! So exciting!!!
