So after losing the lotto 20 times, I bought a regular ticket to see HAIR.
The original cast was in, except for Will Swenson who was replaced by the amazing Steel Burkhardt, but then Steel suffered an injury during act 1 and Bryce Ryness replaced him in act 2. The whole thng was quite confusing since they don't look alike and Bryce was wearing a different outfit.
But the show was phenomenal. It had a few brief "boring" scenes, but this musical effectively took me back to that era of the sexual revolution and made me realize that we have gone a long way. But we still need to keep fighting for equality and peace.
I loved it. Let the sunshine in!

Posted: 1/8/10 at 1:49amI'm so happy Bryce got to go on for the first time as Berger. I honestly wasn't that sure who Bryce was after reading the article, but when I saw the picture I instantly remembered him from The Tribe. As strange as it must have been to have that change between acts, this is why I love live theater. Moments like this are sometimes more memorable than a "perfect" (as in nothing goes wrong) show.

An actor told me that he only had 1 rehearsal at the stage door.

(FYI that question is so strange to type and not be referring to food) And I'm assuming by the one rehearsal only, you mean Bryce. How was he specifically? I can't really remember which act was more Berger-heavy (my mind was elsewhere the night I saw it), but I'm still curious as to how the replacements were.

He became a Berger understudy shortly before Heath Calvert left the production.

I would think that the chemistry between his Berger and Claude or whoever else, would be pretty good since he's already in The Tribe. As opposed to, for instance, a person who is just a standby and doesn't perform with the cast each night. One rehearsal, though? That's pretty rough.

I would have paid HUGE amounts of money to see this! While I'd never want to go on after only 1 rehearsal -- being around it so much helps a great deal.
