HAIR. It had better be the BEST Thing in the West End

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and it doesn't have to mean they went to see Hair because they're either 50+ or a perv. I'm neither and I had a great time and really enjoyed it. Found some parts very emotional, actually.

"What have they done together?"

i don't think i can post links from youtube of marriage equality marches, joes pub performance, parades, etc. dressing room stuff...my point is they are friends and have chemisty on and off stage.

i happened to watch one for a friend of Caisse Levy's last night to at Joe's Pub with her and Kacie Sheikh . it was quite moving and she can really belt it ou.

ha ha! no no, you are what you are. so is everyone else. eff categorization.

who are cat 3 and cat 4 and why would anyone love a show because they are told to? that is the biggest bunch of crap i have ever heard.
and sad, if true.

i guess gavin and will would not get olivier nominations like they did tony nominations for this...so be it. it is what it is, to who it is.

"why would anyone love a show because they are told to? that is the biggest bunch of crap i have ever heard."

I do think it's possible to be impressionable. Even at my 18
If I come out of Legally Blonde (which I still ain't seen) loving it then, yes, it's possible.

I don't see why they couldn't get Olivier nominations. The Oliviers may seem high-brow but they're not - remember Return to the Forbidden Planet won Best Musical over Miss Saigon.

Nothing is official, but on the Hair UK twitter this was posted:

"word 'round town is that Will's (Berger) last Hair show here is on 29th May...a new Berger joins the tribe on the 31st!"

It is official but no body knows who is taking over Berger yet.

HAIR. It had better be the BEST Thing in the West End

Well I saw the show last night having seen it on Broadway and it was 100% better last night. I totally got the show this time round, something I missed in New York.

Had Steel Burkhardt on as Berger and he was every bit as good as Will. The cast are just phenomenal.

Row N stalls - SO much interaction on the end of our row. They lay on us, sang to us, drank our drinks, ate our malteasers, stood on our chairs, at one point they got my friend up and lifted her in the air before putting her in the middle of a 3 way hug. Had me laughing so much.

We were some of the first on the stage at the end too, loved it!!! I want to go back NOW!

HAIR. It had better be the BEST Thing in the West End

Saw this matinee just now. I loved it. Yes, some of the lyrics were lost, but the tunes itself were great and quite a few of them were famous anyway. We had Steel as Berger (I was really really hoping to see Will as Berger since he's leaving soon). But Steel was great. Some of the girls were off, mainly Megan Reinking and the 'Black Boys' song were sung by the swings which was great. The cast was amazing. I've always been a huge fan of Gavin Creel (who was amazing in pretty much everything he does!) and have heard of Cassie Levy cuz she's a Wicked alumni so it's hard NOT to know her.
I thought the story was very lose, it wasn't bad, it just was quite non-existent. And yet somehow it still quite grasped people's heart. At the end when Claude became invisible and obviously laid there in the end, even though there weren't much of a storyline, there were still tears in my eyes. The staging was very affective and for such a small stage with absolutely not much props or anything, it's incredibly well-stage I think. The lighting was amazing too.
During one of the scenes, I forgot which, probably 'Hair', when Gavin walks into the audience, I think he accidentally scared a middle age Chinese audience and she just ran straight to the end of the row. Gavin had to keep doing the 'im sorry!' posture. Quite funny, very cute haha.
Overall, I think it's a great show, will surely watch it again with the full cast!

HAIR. It had better be the BEST Thing in the West End

Hi everyone,

I am dying to see this show again in London this summer after seeing it in New York this past summer, and I loved the audience interaction (I had one guy sitting next to me with his arm around me before he had to rush back on stage) so when i'm going for day seats in London i would love aisle seats, so my question is, how often do you get aisle seats as day seats and what is the best area to sit in at the gielgud, can't seem to find a seating chart with the aisles for Hair in it (Or am i just looking in the wrong places)
Thank you so much in advance for answering my questions (and sorry for any spelling mistakes since i'm not english)

Rush seats for hair are the front row.

The Novello stalls have no centre aisle, just the sides. I can't remember what the upper levels are, it's been a while, but theatremonkey.com has seating guides to every West End theatre.

"1 - People 50+ reliving there youth, who thinks there is nothing wrong with having long hair and wearing socks with sandals and also thinks drinking real ale is cool.

2 - People of any age who just go to perv at a bit of dick or twat, who are in desperate need of seeing a psycho-sexual therapist. "

OK i just saw this comment
How stupid is this, have you seen the show?

This is a rock musical with an incredible energy and still relevent to today.

Im 31 and i dont fall in to either of those.
Im just a fan of great theatre

exedore,

1. Day seats are best available, sometimes they can be front row, but front row seats are sold in advance
2. Hair is not performing at the Novello, its at the Gielgud Theatre

HAIR. It had better be the BEST Thing in the West End

I saw this Thursday at the matinee, so guess I was at the same show as rutthian_fan.

This is the second time I have seen this production, I saw this last year in New York and didn't enjoy it, I suppose all the pre-hype, my expectation was so high and lack of story. I am under 50, so that makes me cat-2, so have made my appointment with a psycho-sexual counsellor!!!

I asked at the box office for a day ticket at about 2:10pm and told "we are sold out today sir", so I said "no problem what other seats do you have", so I opted for a £17:50 seat and ended up with a very good seat in the Royal circle, as they had closed off the Grand Circle, so net result I ended up getting a great ticket for £17:50, when the box office could of flogged me a day ticket for £2:50 extra, so a great tip there for the people asking about tickets. Other than the Royal Circle being closed, the show did seem to be pretty much full up.

I enjoyed Hair a tad more than New York, I think the production is great, but still do not like the actual show, I still find this show too really drag in the middle (avoided using the word limp in the middle, for obvious reasons). For the first 30 minutes, I thought how could I detested this show first time I saw it in NY, but then as I said earlier, it started to drag, but does have a brilliant ending with 'let the sun shine in'. Great at the end when a lot of punters go on stage and I was one of the first up.

As pointed out Swenson was out, but his understudy was great, as for Creel, I also thought he was good too as was the other cast.

Great Songs, but lacks story.

@megs

That's what I get for posting late at night and going to see this on press tickets so not having to look at a seating chart (or remembering where it was).

@SADM
We agree on so many things, but I do question HAIR's modern relevance. It's a period piece, and there have been subsequent works both in and out of genre that convey the themes in a more relevant manner to the current generation.

Hey Exedore

I just mean with many young people still been against thw war (this time the Middle East), after protest marches etc their is still a feeling of fighting a pointless war.

ruthie_fan
for the comments on loose story, etc. i guess we need to take into consideration the time it was written and for what purpose. in the original, they tried to cast "normal" people and not known broadway stars as well. I applaud them for not changing it to suit and it still speakes to what is going on today. we just don't sit in parks and freely smoke dope and defend our troops, we march on parliament with bio degradable coffee cups. the biggest thrill for me was being beside James Rado on stage in NY. i think it is brilliant, and i know i get questionned about that. i never expected a "story" and love the whole way it is projected. the tripping scene is fab.
