crush, the dynamites are played by dancers and are voiced by two of broadway's originals and one of the current understudies.
the voice on the radio during the first detention scene is none other than chester gregory
Thanks. Sad that small scene was cute. Ooops! I thought it was Shelley. Although Brenda is also still listed on the leader board for the Miss Hairspray contest.

keep in mind that the show is set over the course of a short amount of time.. it isn't a months long storyline..
I just returned from the movie and it was so exciting! I loved it . Amanda was a bit awkward at the end when she had to dance (I think it was the dress because it looked like she couldnt walk). The movie was amazing .. I loved it and I can't wait to see it again
BLT - her name is on the first "pageant board" but during the actual Miss Teenage Hairspray her name is not:
Amber
Shelley
Noreen
Tammy
Vicki
Brenda
Amber
Tracy
Shelley
Noreen
Tammy

Yeah...about Penny's dress in YCSTB...her dancing was painfully awkward...but was that intentional because her dress basically locked her at the knees?
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/18/03
it DID! Did you notice that dress had metal rings around the knee?? That would give NO movement to the por girl.
BTW, Lorings, I sent you a PM.
Wow wow wow
Just came back and LOVED IT! I was totally in love with Nikki! She literally lights up the screen every time she smiles. Talk about a girl who was born to play a part.
I really thought everyone in this movie was great.

My first thought was, "Penny's mom must've chosen that dress for her....it's practically a chastity belt!" It would've been fun to see her in a short spangly little number like in the stage show.
Thanks, Mateo! I guess it's this third leader board that confused me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150143644195

I saw Marc as a judge 2 people down from Ricki Lake! It gave me little gasp of delight! :p
Overall, I thought it was a fantastic movie and thoroughly enjoyable, although Travolta fails to match up to the past Ednas by a long shot.

they were agents, not judges.. and they were ricki, shaiman, scott wittman, and adam shankman.

Ah, yes sorry, my mistake.
I loved how they were all dressed in black around all the other colorful costumes. I was the only one that laughed out loud at that moment.
Lorings- I think it was intentional.
Adam would have nixed Rita Ryacks design had he wanted her to dance full out.
The story behind the rings-
The costume is actually taken from Pennys Bedroom Curtains:
The rings are the rod rings. :)
and the ruffle is the valance

Mateo, that is BRILLIANT.
Very "Scarlett making a dress out of the drapes."
"I'm rescuing the fair maiden, baby"

A friend of mine just got back from the 1:30 showing and said it was virtually sold out.
He also went to a morning showing of C&L and said it was dreadful, and not particularly well-attended.

O.M.G. I didn't notice that about Penny's dress.. that is BEYOND brilliant. ha!!!

Very good movie, I really enjoyed myself.
I like Travolta, but I would have preferred a larger man dressed as a woman rather than a man in a fat suit, it took away from her expressiveness. But I like it anyway, he did a great job, sounded like Dr. Evil though.
THe music (the first Ive heard of it since I didnt see the show) was good, but largely forgettable, nothing history making, but serviceable.
I loved John Waters' cameo.
Well Fenchurch I'm so glad you came off your high horse long enough to make it to the local cinema to see the movie.

Dark_Angel, that was uncalled for.
Don't worry, I'll be there slumming the next time you play Rum Tum Tugger in your community theater production of CATS.
OK First of all WOW What an amazing film, im still in shock at how bloody good this were.
Im in the UK and the audiences seem to be LOVING THIS.The woman at the cinema said more people were booking to watch Hairspray today than Harry Potter!!(and thats odd considering all the kids have broke up from school for 6 weeks)
Me and my partner went to watch it today (forgetting it was the 6 weeks holidays)so when we got to the cinema they were a load of kids buying tickets (at 28 me and my partner almost turned around and left but i had been waiting to watch this film for months so we stayed).
I finally got to the front of the line and went to get tickets and they had bloody SOLD OUT , yes the next 2 showings were completely full so we had to wait 2 hours (so went to the pub as you do)
When we got in and sat down they were lots of kids as well as tons of adults (many gay men wooh wooh) but as soon as the film started everyone shut up.
AND WHAT A START
Good morning Baltimore was so well done and the audience clapped after the song (YES CLAPPED).Thats how it went for the rest of the film with audiences clapping after each song.
The film was amazing with every single performance BRILLIANT.My only gripe was i wish Alison Janey had more screen time(How funny was she when she saw Penny and Seaweed on TV)
Travolta was adorable , i warmed to him straight away and his accent had me in stitches as well as his physical comedy (i cried with laughter when he ran in to the door).
Walken was fantastic especially in the Joke shop scene with MP and the whoopee cushion scene.
Zac Efron was someone i didn't really know (at 28 im way past high school musical lol) but he was fantastic especially in without love .
Seaweed WOW WOW WOW put him in a musical now he was brilliant, Run and Tell that almost had me dancing.
Latifah was great as well and had just the right amount of passion and heart, my partner loved I Know Where Ive Been
MP was wicked as Velma ,ive never been a fan of hers but in this she was perfect (and chewing the scenery at every moment she was on screen)
Amanda B was great even though her screen time wasn't that much, but the faces she pulled were so funny(her performance in without love was great to)
And then Nicky Blonksy WOW what can i say SHE IS TRACEY.Right from her little under the cover bed wiggle at the beginning to You Cant Stop The Beat she was on fire, THIS IS HER MOVIE.
The best scene for me was I Can Hear The Bells , that had me in stitches(the way she barged down the corridor was so funny)
I honestly can not remember the last time i had that much fun watching a film, For me this blew Dreamgirls out of the water (and i love dreamgirls)
When the film had done everyone was gushing how great it was, i turned to my partner who is not a big musical fan and said "well what did you think" expecting him to say "its ok" but instead his response were "that was the best movie ive seen in years" and i would have to agree.
I have seen all the summer blockbusters and hated them all THIS IS A SUMMER MOVIE!!!
What makes this a great film is that it knows exactly what it is and wears it like a badge of honor on its sleeve.Right from the get go it said "we just want you to have fun" and boy did we.
It didn't try to ease you in to the fact it was a musical like Dreamgirls (hell shes singing withing a few seconds) and it didn't have to because the film knows that it can make you fall in love with it.
I have been a huge Hairspray fan for years and was worried when i heard Mamma Im A Big Girl Now had been cut but i honestly didn't miss it in the film.
The story changes (very minimal) all worked brilliantly
I can not recommend this movie enough,go and see it NOW.Its the most fun you can have with your clothes on!!!
