Well, that's ..........odd...
The actors seem to spend an awful lot of time spinning.
And Velma's finale wig looks awful.
Guess I'm just used to the FNT.

Posted: 10/26/06 at 4:50pmIt looks good. I'm not a fan of the round though, it looks like every dance revolves around some sort of a circle or line.

Posted: 10/26/06 at 5:13pmwell it seemed very ntresting and i wish i could see it. i feel like this was filmed durring a dress rehersal as there is no applause or laughs....and something about the girl who is tracy she just seemed older.

Yes, the B-roll was filmed during a dress rehearsal.
Bridie Carroll, who stars as Tracy Turnblad, is 24. I was reading article and at 5'4", she is an inch taller than the Broadway 'limit' for Tracy.. that limit was also listed for auditions for North Shore.

Posted: 10/26/06 at 5:19pmIt justs looks like there's not energy...it looks a little unprofessional, even with the costumes.

Posted: 10/26/06 at 5:41pmWhere did they get those costumes? They look exactly like the Broadway ones...

Posted: 10/26/06 at 5:42pmI was thinking her Tracy reads a little older in comparison to all the Tracy's that I've seen.

Posted: 10/26/06 at 5:45pmthe costumes, as has been stated in this thread previously, were taken from the Las Vegas production.. there are a few new pieces (like Inez's blue dress)

Posted: 10/26/06 at 6:36pmI saw "Hairspray" twice on the national tour and loved it. I watched the preview video and have to say this production looks interesting. Wish I was closer to MA so I could see it.

I'm sure she and the show are both FANTASTIC, but poor Tracy either gave them no energy when they filmed this, or they edited the material poorly. The video doesnt nearly represent how FUN Hairspray is. And as far as the choreo goes... take all or none. The finale dance looks EHH and a good third of the steps were Jerry Mitchell's.
Hairspray is FUN and North Shore is WONDERFUL, so i'm sure there is nothing to worry about it. I look forward to hearing some BWW reviews.

yes, I kept notice DISTINCT Mitchell steps used in the footage, but employed much differently....
It seems, to ME, that the issue was that it was filmed with no audience and during a rehearsal. There was no crowd for the company to feed off of and the cast had a LONG rehearsal/run thru before filming, I am sure....

Posted: 10/26/06 at 7:24pmNow is it just me, or does it seem like there's not much set design in that video? It may be in the dark, but I can't really see it.

Posted: 10/26/06 at 7:29pmIt is in the round. The audiesnce sits on all four sides of the stage.. you can't exactly have walls......

Posted: 10/26/06 at 7:40pmOh...I didn't know that the stage was round.

Sorry 'bout that.

Posted: 10/26/06 at 8:12pmWow... a round stage must be so akward, especially getting actors and set pieces on and off. I cant imagine Hairspray working as well without the sets and the format of Broadway...
