Just got my copy of this yesterday (just in time for me to see the show for the first time this Friday night on my birthday!), and WOW. This book is absolutely beautifully. The craftsmanship that went into making this book is insane. I am so excited to finally see the show on Friday, and this book has me even more excited. I have had my ticket since November.

I am about halfway through the book now. I think this is easily the nicest and most complete coffee table book ever made for a Broadway show. I also saw the show last night for the first time last night. I bought my ticket back in November, so I had been waiting 7 months!

The show is absolutely spectacular. Each number is so unique, exquisite, and perfect from every note the orchestra plays to each step of the amazing choreography. The direction is so focused and the show moves along at a fast pace. I couldn't stop thinking about how I just didn't want the show to end! I was sitting in row P right in the center, and it was the perfect view. I love the stadium seating at the Richard Rodgers. It is like having the best of both the orchestra and the mezzanine in one seat.

The cast is uniformly excellent. Surprisingly, I was more so impressed by Renee Elise Goldsberry and Phillipa Soo than any of the male leads. Which is not to say the male leads were not great, I think I just wasn't expecting these two women to be so terrific in their roles. Phillipa Soo commands the stage and has amazing stage presence. I found her to be absolutely mesmerizing. Linn was nothing short of amazing, however, I do wonder what the show would be like with a better singer in the role. Daveed and Leslie both rightfully earned their Tonys.

The set for this show, while simple, is absolutely beautiful. I loved the mix of wooden beams, brick walls, turntables and ropes that were used the create one cohesive set design which is enhanced by the gorgeous lighting. The costumes were sexy as hell, and the ensemble looked GREAT in them.

This show is unlike anything I have ever seen. You can't really compare it to any other Broadway show because it is in a league of its own. I tend to fall hard for shows that are unlike any other show (same reason I love Matilda so much). While I loved the show a great deal, I do have to admit it's not something I would pay $500 for or campout 3 days for to get a ticket. However, I would not do that for any show. I am so glad I got the chance to see this before the original cast left, and I look forward to hopefully seeing it again in maybe ten years or so when one can get a ticket.

Great review, glad you saw what I also see in Phillipa's performance. Agree on how fast it goes, it's probably the only show where when it's done I'd be happy to sit through it again straight away.

Great review bwayphreak. I agree with everything you you said. I'm so glad I got to see the show last December as I would never be lucky enough to get tickets now nor could I afford them!
