HATE REVIVALS? NEW MUSICAL IDEAS?

What do you think would make for a great new musical? Any particular topic, story line, social event, biography, movie adaptation, etc?

Superstar: The Musical. (The lovely story of Mary Katherine Gallagher and her troubles through adolescence...!)
I'm as jumpy as a virgin at a prison rodeo!

That's a funny idea. The props people and set designers would go crazy replacing broken tables, chairs and walls after every performance. Who would play her?

Not unless they just appear to break and are designed to where the pieces fit back togetherre: re: re: HATE REVIVALS? NEW MUSICAL IDEAS?

true, true...........Who would be the perfect composer for that score? I can already picture the big production number ending ACT 1 that surrounds her and a chorus of armpit sniffing chorus girls in girlscout uniforms.

Tim Acito maybe? I might get shot for this, but I liked Zanna don't even if it was bubble gum music, for some reason he just seems like he would be good for this kind of show to me.

I'd like to see Disney try out Mary Poppins on Broadway or Newsies or something! I always thought Dirty Dancing would work as well as a musical. The music on the movie's soundtrack fit very nicely into the plot of the movie and moved it along quite smoothly.
What do you all think?

You know what story I'd like to see some composer tackle...again? The whole Nicholas/Alexandra/perhaps Anastasia story re: the Russian Revolution, etc. I know that previous attempts to musicalize this have been lack-luster, but talk about a plot that is ripe for musicalization...by the RIGHT person, that is.

I think they should turn "Finding Nemo" into a musical. They'd probably have to expand on some characters for time length. It'd be interesting to see how they'd give dimension to Marlin's spouse or Doree's past.
Bill Finn rocks. Woot.

Yes! Finding Nemo would make a very good musical. It would be kind of hard to do, though. Like, all the underwater scenes are just so amazing, so maybe a stage production would take some of the magic out of it.

SUPERSTAR should definately be a musical.

I think that Disney should try to make Pochahantas (sp??) into a Broadway musical, alongside Lion King and BATB. I just love the story, so I think that bringing it to Broadway might be kind of cool.

I just came up with another one. A musical based on the life of the guy who played Pee Wee Herman, hahah that was a joke. I would be scared if anyone ever did a show like that. Broadway does need some original shows. While watching the Tony's one year my cousin and I decided we could make our own musical and call it Cousins The Musical. It would be about a small town in the country where everyone is related. People have to go to the big city to find girls to marry because they are all so closely related and they have to save up for several years to make the trip. There are two people from the town who marry each other (They're cousins and they have a kid named Cousin Earl, let's just say he's not all there.) Then to add to the drama a family moves in with a girl and all the cousins are fighting over which of them gets the girl. ANyway it turns out she is adopted and is their long lost cousin which throws another wrench into the plot, and the cousin she falls in love with. I thought it would be funny to have about twenty kids per parent, i thought tha would be hilarious, its just an idea, We thought it was funny because I get along so well with two of my cousins that people think we're dating, it's happened with my sister too. People always feel really stupid afterward, but my sister and I look nothing alike, but what I think broadway really needs right now is more serious musicals, it hasn't had any that have been really successful lately it seems to me, but I am also stuck out here in the Midwest so I don't hear everything. I hope this post is coherent my thoughts sort of blend together, it made sense in my headre: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: HATE REVIVALS? NEW MUSICAL IDEAS?

Rough crowd...
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer

"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher

It was in high school, i was Commander Harbison, I made the best of it but I was upset, we were at a school where they based everything on seniority and not by talent. Not saying I deserved a bigger part because I sucked up my audition, I have a habit of getting sick before an audition, I think it could be psychosomatic, but I'm getting over that. Anyway back on topic, the guy who had Emile never came to rehearsal and was completely ununderstandable he was horrible, he didn't deserve the part, he only got it because he was a senior.(We did it for the Roger and Hammerstein anniversary.) But last year I was Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, and I worked my butt off in that role.
