Nice to know others can create jukebox dancicals:
Rocket Man
Would love to see this come to Denver.
really?? this is in competition to Twyla? Or is this an inspiration of Twyla?

I think the comparison being made is that it is a dance show that uses music by one popular artist. Also, it was attended by people who may want it to tour. You don't have that happen at every show in every city.

Ballet and virtually all other dance companies have created pieces for years using pre-existing music. Twyla is only unique in this aspect in that she has been able to get producers to pay for hers to be on Broadway.

Twyla was the original. Look at Deuce Coupe 1973. That was the first cross breed of popular music, modern dance and ballet combined. 1973!!! She wasn't even on Broadway yet! The Beach Boys and Twyla Tharp in 1973! How many of you were even born? 37 years ago she started a trend that only caught up to her after the year 2000.

I was 12 in 1973!
really? 12. so you must have seen Hair the movie? Twyla did the choreography for that movie and can be seen in it if you look closely.
Really. You seem surprised.
sorry uncageg but, i'm a little surprised. i took this website as to being mostly generated by 20 year olds. most of the folks that are in the +35 category seem to be void of this type of media.
Then you must pay a bit more attention to what people post here. You could really learn a lot! And I don't know the folks that you know, but a lot of my friends that use this type of media are 35 plus. Yup, we know how to use computers! :)
And yes, I saw Hair in a movie theater on a huge screen. I even own the soundtrack on vinyl!
"1973! How many of you were even born?"
Oh, shut up.
wonder, you made me really smile, and laugh, for the first time all day. Thank you!
uncageg, i didn't mean to offend you personally. People take this website way too seriously and wonderwaiter I'll shut up only if you can tell me something about theater I don't already know and understand. I'm not trying to put an age on people on this board as I'm trying to put a time line as to learning about the past of theater and performances.
PR, I was not offended personally. There are people on here from 15 on up. When I said to pay attention to some of the posts, I was actually saying that you can learn a lot about theatre before you were born if you, and I assume you are, very young. There are people here who have worked in the theatre for years and have knowledge that you and I will never have. It is one of the main reasons I joined.
And yes, people do take this board seriously, some more than others, as well they should. This is a place where you can come to talk about the theatre and learn a lot about what is going on in New York as well as around the country. And if you pay attention, you will realize that there are insiders here with a wealth of information. People here have a passion for the theatre.
And actually you did put an age on people on the boards with your statement about people 35 and up and the "how many of you were born" comment.
uncageg, I am not "very young". however, I am "very young" to this website as you can see by the amount of posts I have made. Most of what I witness on broadway world is to say the least immature in context and I am guilty of that as well. Personal feelings tend to get in the way well before rational thought and realization of which everyone is guilty. I only put an age attachment to my most recent post because of the current trend of conversation that you and I are both apart of so don't attempt to put yourself above the fray.
This thread is full of Lols
no kidding B3T. how many 'S's in 'SenSitive'?
PR, you misunderstood my post. I am in no way attempting to "put myself above the fray". I was simply giving my thoughts about this site which I enjoy reading, writing for and posting on. No need for sarcasm.
So let's get back on topic!
But back to my point- If David Furnish is able to persuade Sir Elton that THIS can be the way he wins a Tony- I suspect it will tour and come to Broadway. Stro did it w Contact- but there was dialouge in that so not a pure form of danc-ical.
( I remember Deuce Coupe as well tho "Dance is Also a Contact Sport" from the same period is a work I like better)
It says that presenters from across America and Europe were there so something must be up.
