HOT FEET!

Posted: 3/23/06 at 8:52amComplete and total disaster! I saw this on Tuesday, the "world premiere". I was laughing out loud throughout because I was in such agony and couldn't believe how ridiculous the set, costumes, and acting were. The book is AWFUL! My 6 year old niece could write a better book! So much of the show was over the top, tasteless, and stale. I can't believe this is coming to Broadway--it is going to get pummeled by reviews and anyone who has any taste for Broadway theater.

This is just my opinion. Several people seemed to love it. It's entertaining, if nothing else...
Costumes: Neon "street" clothes reminiscent of In Living Color Fly Girls; several full-body suits including orange and black pieces with city scenes on them, silver space-age suits, black bondage suits; and my personal favorite was the torn "sexy" red and black outfits with the nipple pasties for ALL sexes.
Set: Very simple and dull. They tried to use special laser lighting effects throughout, but they looked outdated--like 1995 amusement park light show.
Songs: They were fine. Sound levels were off, but I’m sure that’s due to changes being made. Very little singing occurs on stage. Songs—Shining Star, Rock That/Boogie Wonderland, When I Dance, Dearest Heart, September, Turn it Into Something Good.
Story: The writing was so awful! They were trying to be "urban", but it ended up sounding like an after school special throughout. The plot twists were sudden and poorly acted. The build for emotional scenes was nonexistent.
The Shoes: The Red Shoes of Death were used throughout the show-bad special effect. At the beginning and end of the show, they cart out a 3 foot tall platform displaying 3 foot tall sparkly red shoes. Completely cheesy.
