Ok, so pre-sale tickets are now on sale for Maurice Hines' new dance musical HOT FEET!
http://www.theatremama.com/ccount/click.php?id=38
Much like WICKED, HOT FEET tells the story of a young girl striving to acheive her dreams. Unlike WICKED, hot feet is much more urban and much more dance oriented. The dancing I saw in it was unlike anything I have ever seen before. In fact, I don't really think we've seen something like this since Pippin, or perhaps Chorus Line.
Here's what someone at TheatreMAMA had to say:
"Recently, MAMA was tempted to a sneak peak rehearsal of a new musical still in development and as we sat watching these immaculate dancers leaping across the rehearsal room floor, MAMA was transported back to a time when the likes of FAME and Chorus Line graced our stages! In each of these young people there was such fire and it poured from them and onto the floor like the sweat from their pores, until the whole room was nearly consumed and burnt to the ground with the dance!

Posted: 3/8/06 at 11:44amI'm just waiting for it to pop up on the papering services. Without any stars -- no matter how good it is -- it's going have a constant struggle to try to fill the Hilton. I'm sure that there will be no shortage of comps floating around for this.

Posted: 3/8/06 at 11:52amI have a friend seeing it in DC. I am just not too sure about this one. I was never a Maurice Hines fan. I just always thought he was riding his brother's coat tails (I could be wrong!). And they are using the music of my ALL TIME favorite group. I don't want to see Maurice White and his music fail on Broadway. But I will try to keep positive thoughts that I will see this show in June when I am there.

Yeah. That was, like, two whole years ago, right? Where does the time go? Sunrise, sunset, sunrise, sunset...

I have no idea how they're expecting to fill the Hilton with this. I mean, I like Earth, Wind, and Fire as much as the next guy, but that doesn't mean I need to see a big bloated musical featuring their songs. No one likes to see a popular artist get bogged down by a bad jukebox concept.
My only experience with Maurice Hines was with the national tour of Guys and Dolls that he starred in a couple of years ago. He came to Seattle, and he was pretty bad.

You guys are so funny!
What in the world would we do without fabulous people like yourselves who will talk up this wonderful industry we're all in and really go all out to get people to the theatre!
I'm sorry, I thought this was a board for theatre lovers!?
This is our industry and if we want it to continue, we better start promoting it instead of slamming it...
So let's hear it...what ARE you excited about? What upcoming projects Titillate the ladies of BWW.com??? (ooh, did I just say titillate?)

"Expect to see an unmitigated disaster. Good luck!"
Thanks. I'm in the front row on the aisle (for some reason the ticket was only $26 - I have no idea why) but I will definitely move to the back of the orchestra before the show starts...the front row will probably be too close for a dance show.

Didn't they already make this show? I thought it was called BKLYN. It flopped too.

Pretty much anything but a juke-box musical. Something original (Drowsy Chaperon) or a new interpretation of a classic(Sweeney/Threepenny). It is not Broadway we poo-poo, it is silly ideas that just look bad from the get-go. (In My Life? Brooklyn? All Shook Up? Good Vibrations? Lennon?)

Hey! All Shook Up was good. It was the best of the jukebox.
And they just taped pictures to the door? Do they normally do that? it doesnt seem to classy. Not sure how I feel about that logo. Kinda cool but kinda cheesy.

Hot Feet
Having seen and been underwhelmed by most of Maurice Hines' shows since the early 80s (Uptown… It’s Hot!, Harlem Suite), "excitement" is just not an emotion I can summon for any new show of his. While he is capable of putting together a well-danced number or two, plot, story and coherence have never been his strong suits. EWF was my favorite group in the 70s and I had all of their albums and own their 3 CD box set, but because of Hines' involvement, I have a wait-and-see attitude towards HOT FEET (and I also question shoehorning EWF songs around the Red Shoes story -- sounds like the recipe for a bad jukebox musical).

Posted: 3/8/06 at 1:22pmYes, on my way to the American Airlines theater last weekend, I noticed that the logo was taped to the doors on pieces of paper with some dates on it (probably the day the box office opens, first preview date, and opening night date). It looked very cheap, but I'm sure they are having professional ones printed soon. The posters were already up on either side of the box office doors. I don't think the marquis is up yet...

Woo, I hear Faith Healer was BAD! But I'm excited to see History Boys. The poster reminds me of that Robin Williams' movie...Dead Poets...is that right?
Of course, I don't expect there will be much dancing in History Boys... ![]()

I'm going on a field trip with school to see this. It will be my first jukebox musical, and I'm hoping it's a disaster. I've never seen anything absolutely horrific. I kind of want to
OK, I know shouldn't hope it fails because of out-of-work actors and such...
