I'm hoping to see Hadestown this Sunday (Nov. 12). On the first Sunday of Citadel runs, part of the house is set aside for pay-what-you-can rush (about 1/5th of the house, so around 130 seats). I've never rushed a Citadel performance, so I don't know how early I have to be there before tickets go on sale - the website says up to 3 hours for popular shows. You can only purchase 1 ticket per person, so hopefully I'll get in. If I do, I'd be glad to answer all your questions about this production. It would help me a lot if I had some idea in advance what kind of things you want to know so I can watch for them. I'm not familiar with the work - I haven't seen any previous incarnations of the show or listened to the concept album and I'm not familiar with Anais Mitchell or even the Orpheus and Eurydice story that much (though I did see Black Orpheus).

Very jealous! I don’t want to spoil anything for you (Not that there’s much to spoil—this show is a lot more about feelings than it is about plot). But the previous production had Hermes as a narrator and three “fates” who mostly sang in unison, and they acted as a chorus. I’ve heard there is a larger chorus for this production. If you wouldn’t mind keeping an eye out for how they function, I’m curious how they fit into the production.
Also curious about Reeve Carney and T.V. Carpio’s performances.
Enjoy the show!!

Here's a 30 second promo video showing the show in a proscenium.

Maybe it was just the footage, but this looks even better than the Off-Broadway run. They would be stupid not to transfer in this season.

Probably because the production is in Edmonton, Alberta instead of Chicago or Boston or San Diego.

For what it's worth:
I know someone "in" on the production who said they're looking for a fall transfer now. They have their eye on a couple of theatres in particular, but they don't have one set.

The proscenium looks better than I thought it would, but I guess I shouldn't have underestimated Rachel Chavkin. Also--it looks like Bradley King has done some awesome stuff with the lighting design yet again!

Sorry, no I meant next fall. That was unclear. I forgot we were still in the fall now. The weather feels like early winter and time is going by slowly for me, haha.

Would very much like to know your source, because I was told last week by someone involved that they were looking at Circle in the Square specifically, and willing to hold out for OOTI to close rather than look at another theatre (Though I'd imagine if OOTI turns out to be a smashing success they'll reconsider of course)
I was also told "next year" though they didn't specify fall 2018 vs spring 2019

I'd rather not name my source (I rarely have a "source" on any of these things so I'm playing it safe, as I don't know the protocol). But what you said could also potentially be true. The person I talked to seemed less certain about the theatre situation than they were about the fact that they were aiming for next fall. But nothing about this is certain at this point.
I will say, however, that it strikes me as highly unlikely that they would be looking exclusively at CITS considering they went to all the trouble to re-stage the show for a proscenium.

I sent you a PM if you'd rather talk privately. :)
And I don't think it's all too unlikely? Comet was restaged with a proscenium at one point too, for the ART, and look what they ended up doing. I know they're definately seeing the Citadel as one piece in the journey to broadway, and what eventually lands in NYC will be quite different than both the Citadel and the NYTW.

But see I view Great Comet as more of an example of what I'm saying. They may have spread out into the house a lot at the Imperial, but the point of the A.R.T staging was to see if it could work in a proscenium theatre, and the Imperial is still a proscenium theatre, regardless of the fact that they broke the proscenium and added seats all around.

It just seems utterly insane that we don't have more than one really modular space on Broadway.

Exactly. If the hockey gods had been kind enough to have the Red Wings play @ the Oilers during the run, I absolutely would have ponied up for the flight and hotel. Just couldn't justify it for only the show (sorry Edmonton).
I'm excited by what I've heard of the score so far, and hope it does well!

I wasn't able to go to the pay-what-you-can performance last weekend because of an unfortunate situation but I'm going to try to go before the end of the run. If I do, I'd be happy to grab you a program.

The opening was moved to Nov 16th. There are reviews online dated Nov 17 the day after.
I attended, and I thought it was fan-freaking-tastic. While I didn't see it as presented in NYC, the proscenium sets in this production were incredible. The lighting, wonderful, the mood/tone of the setting, and music even better, the cast, where to start? What more can you say about Patrick Page, Amber Grey, Kingsley Leggs. I thought T.V Carpio was great...Carney less so.
I've read "The Workers" are a new addition. Not having seen it without them I can't imagine it without them. Stellar addition.
If this isn't Broadway worthy, "Rent" should have played at some NJ casino.

Posted: 11/18/17 at 3:19pmI'll be going to the final performance on Dec. 3rd - they added a Sunday evening show that day. I'll see if I can pick up a bunch of programs for anyone who wants one. I'd like to trade for a CFA Playbill (pride rainbow cover would be awesome) - all others will have to pay postage.
