NY1 with a video is a Rave:
"Watch out, squares: the hippies have taken over the Hirschfeld Theater, and you can bet those shaggy-headed, draft-dodging, free-loving free spirits will be squatting on West 45th Street for quite a while.
In other words, the Public Theater's revival of the classic 1968 musical "Hair" is triumphantly back, and attendance will surely lead to a contact high.
...
And what an amazing young cast this is. Will Swenson radiates bad-boy charisma as Berger. Gavin Creel, with all-American looks and a sweet tenor, plays the sensitive Claude, for whom burning his draft card isn't the answer. Other note worthies in the cast are Kacie Shiek as the very pregnant, ditzy Jeanie; Darius Nichols, as the proud black hippie Hud; and the wacky Bryce Ryness as Woof, who worships Mick Jagger and howls at the moon.

I have a feeling Creel will be lead and Swenson will be featured. Best Actor is very crowded right now and I feel since Claude is kind of the navigating force of the show he will be lead. Will Swenson also would have a better chance at winning in Featured.
I hope Paulus upsets for Best Director of a Musical.

I think she did a much better job then Daldry. Her direction for Hair is great and deserves the award. I think the Tonys will be all over the place this season.
The best proof of just how finely Paulus directed this production is to look at those who have never like HAIR, and absolutely fell in love with it after seeing this production. And I have a feeling there will be many Tony voters who see just how important the direction is in this production for that reason.
Foster: I am DEFINITELY one of those people! And "in love" is the right phrase!
I am one of those people, too.

Ok, so... I've just been wondering about this
realistically, what do we think the chances are of Gavin and/or Will getting nominations? Winning?
I'm just not really sure how high to get my hopes for those ones, so I'm curious to see what other people think about it. I haven't had a chance to see many other shows this year, so I'm not sure what the competition is like. But is it plausible that either one of them could win? Cause, you know.. just the thought of that happening does make me really happy :P
Will totally has a shot at winning Featured Actor.
And while the reviews were positive but not really enough to warrant a win for Creel, he's definitely the biggest threat to the Billy boys.

^yay coolness!!
Except.. wait. Nooo, that's too much of a conflict! Will in this or Aaron in Next to Normal?? They're both amazing! I don't want them to both be in the same category haha
(I feel like.. if they do end up being in the same category though, I'd kinda have to root for Aaron. Will is SUPER fantastic, but Aaron is just... ridiculously killer in NtN)

I would much rather see Gavin win, I think he deserves it. If this was a dancing award the Billy boys should get it but I think Gavin is all around better.
I definitely could see them both be nominated....winning is going to be a tougher sell....but not by a longshot.
HAIR & BILLY ELLIOT will win the Tonys for Best Musicals (revival & new) so people book your tixs now!

It looks like these playbills may be staying in color longer than people predicted.
I really hope they get the Best Revival award, they definitely deserve it, it's such a solid production. Will Swenson will probably remain featured and I think he should definitely win, he's simply fantastic. Hopefully Creel will get nominated over someone like Matt Cavenaugh or the GUYS & DOLLS men.
"Hopefully Creel will get nominated over someone like Matt Cavenaugh or the GUYS & DOLLS men."
Creel is a lock for a nomination.
Let's face it guys.. GUYS & DOLLS and PAL JOEY are just fillers for the Revival. Its really between WSS & HAIR.
IMO~HAIR will likely to win because its of its commercial appeal over WSS. All these baby boomers wants to relive their hippie days + it will find new audience amongst young people. Most of my friends who are in the age of 18-25 REALLY love HAIR, none of them are raving about WSS. Also WSS with its bilingual approach ( dont get me wrong- I love love spanish. I speak fluent Spanish!) but how many TOURIST (okay..I used that word) will want to sit and try to figure out the Spanish (plus the songs translated in Spanish) one of those things that looks good in paper..
Note : Tourist as in people visiting New York City (not us, not theater students- we know WSS) from the Midwest...etc... It's like...hmm... what should I see WSS-that's looks like its old, with Spanish (that I would not understand..) VS. HAIR
HAIR is 'THE" bad-ass musical! ROCK + SEX + NUDITY = $$$ - People would wanna see something like this.
Plus the Arthur Laurents backlash amongs voters- ( I like him!) but he is been reviving all his musicals almost every year- plus WSS is like putting GYPSY (creative team) + IN THE HEIGHTS- this is a little last year! People wants something NEW..and FRESH.. HAIR offers all that...
As I said- that's my opinion ( I could be wrong) but that's why I think HAIR will win the REVIVAL!! It's also time for it to win too!
People... Like it or Not but HAIR is back with the VENGEANCE!

WSS is pretty commerical too..I mean its WEST SIDE STORY
But WSS has NO-
drugs, nudity, social activism on your face, kick ass cast, dancing on the stage, killer band and did I mention..."orgies" !
YES... WE LIKE THAT! lol. (j/k)

After these reviews, it's pretty much a given that Hair has revival in the bag.
At least the cast of Hair LOOKS like they are from their time period. The cast of WSS fails to embody their time and place.
WSS fails on SO many levels.
Hair for best revival....ALL THE WAY1!!!
Does anyone remember if The War is included in the revival or if it was cut? It's strictly an instrumental number with choreography.
