Too bad. I have seen HAIR numerous times. Could barely make it through Next to Normal once with all the caterwauling happening on stage!

Those Blocked: SueStorm. N2N Nate. Good riddence to stupid! Rad-Z, shill begone!

I posted a thread like this a while ago before I went, asking whether I should see Hair or N2N, and people said N2N by a small bit because at that time, most didn't think it would make it through the summer. I did not see Hair, but I saw Billy, 9 to 5, and N2N and enjoyed all thorougly. But, most importantly, I am so incredibly glad I followed the opinions of posters on here, especially Jordangirl, who I want to thank for advising me so, and chose N2N. It is probably the most incredible theatrical experience I have ever had. You will not regret choosing that show.

I just saw these three shows last week, and loved them all, but if you can only see one pick between Hair and N2N. Both are amazing shows and honestly, you can flip a coin between these two shows and you will not loose.

now that Aaron has left N2N, I'd say Hair... I might have even said Hair before he left, but definitely now.

I didn't really like N2N, but Kyle I usually agree with you, but this time I must say that WSS was the best show I saw in NYC.
millie- you are so funny! I love your advice, you're always very comedic and cute!

I probably should avoid any show about a family altogether, I should've gone to Rock of Ages or Hair! =( Coulda Woulda Shoulda.

I didn't like 9 to 5's Tony's performance at all, so althought it's closing I probably wouldn't have seen it.

Haha.

Well, lucky for you, Hair will probably be around for a while. If you get a chance, make sure you catch it with the original cast.

Yeah, I'm dying to see Hair, but I doubt I will be able to catch this cast =(

What did you like so much about it? I have seen the show in the past and I thought it was a big 'ol mess. But they were so fantastic at the Tonys, when they sang "Let the sunshine in" at the end of the opening I was basically in heaven!

The first thing that attracts me to a show is the music, and I really love the score, so that was a definite plus. You could also tell the cast really loved what they were doing and everyone had amazing chemistry. That was obviously really important to the audience's enjoyment of the show, as the cast's energy really shined through.

If you cannot see it with the original cast, hopefully you can still catch it with at least Will Swenson and/or Gavin Creel.

I am curious, where else have you seen the show? Have you seen the original run or was this a regional or community production?

I saw a commercial production of the show in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the year 2000. There was basically no plot, and the big draw for the show was that the cast appeared naked on stage, I was 20yo and felt so embarrassed! LOL

luvtheEmcee made an interesting comment about the plot in a Hair thread when someone questioned the Claude trip scene:

"Well, Hair is kind of notorious for not having much of a plot. The other day at the Barnes and Noble event, Rado and MacDermot were talking about how they don't really see it as a book musical, and explained that there was a lot more book that got chipped away as they streamlined the show. But yeah, a lot of it is kind of random and out there, because while it has a definitive storyline, it does have a pretty loose plot. Though I actually think Claude's trip is one of the big plot-driving sequences in the show because it's a picture of everything that's going on in his mind. You really see what he's afraid of."

Thanks millie, that makes sense, did you see the current revival of WSS yet? You live in Boston, correct?

MOST of the Hair cast will be around for another 6 months. (approx) Yes, individuals have been out due to injury, and a few have left to pursue other things -- contracts are broken all the time.

Muscle -- I felt the same way about Hair before last summer in the park (the previous incarnation of this production) and it TOTALLY turned my thoughts around. Loved the music, hated the show. Diane Paulus really found the something that was always missing in any other production I'd seen -- she found it's soul.

Hair would be my first choice, without a doubt.
Next To Normal is an easy second, though.

9 to 5 would be my pick.

Hair and N2N will be around for awhile but 9 to 5 will only be around for a couple of more weeks. It really is a fun show that got a bad wrap from the critics. I saw it again for a second this weekend and absolutely loved it.

Um...guys, the original poster has come and gone...votes for what s/he WILL chose are rather moot at this point.

Perhaps someone else needs to make the same decision and rather than creating another threa, they will read this one and find out what others have to say.

SO DEPENDS ON YOUR MOOD!!
they are very different shows, and I love all of them (though I like Hair and N2N more than the latter)

If you want something, deep and emotional with edgy music that will make you cry see Next to Normal

if you want something fun, upbeat and energizing, with a lot of audience interaction and taboo-ish topics see Hair

If you want something light and fun, and just overall a feel good show see 9 to 5
