#1Hairspray Cast Recording Question
Posted: 4/11/09 at 11:13amIf I'm not mistaken, wasn't Hairspray recorded before the show was frozen? What are some of the changes that didn't make it to the recording?

Posted: 4/11/09 at 11:26amMiss Baltimore Crabs is the most drastic change. A couple of verses are missing in the play. The verse that comes to my mind is, "A tycoon I wed, so cuddly and funny. The old fart dropped dead, but left tons of money. So I bought this station so all of the nation could see, baby Amber and me!" That whole verse isn't in the play. Also, Cooties is a lot shorter in the play and some of the lyrics are different. For example, the opening line on the CD is "They came from way far out in outer space, and with her help they may destroy the human race!" In the shoiw it's "They came from way far out in outer space, she's hard to miss and so they landed on her face!" There are probably a couple more that I can't think of at the moment. Hope that helped! :)

Posted: 4/11/09 at 11:46amWas the "making out with Perry Como" something that got changed or was it just a funny mistake of MJW's part?
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu#4re: Hairspray Cast Recording Question

huh? wrong again Mr. BrodyFosse123
"Blood On The Pavement", was cut from the show after I think one preview (maybe even before that!) out of town in Seattle...it was included on the CD as a "hidden" track BECAUSE it had been cut, no "little did we know" about it.
Another reminder to beware of people on the internet who speak of "facts". This one is silly and unimportant, but something else you may read about something or someone might not be so unimportant. Never forget that!
(edit note: since I wrote in, the person known as BrodyFosse123 deleted his posting)

What was the deal with "Velma's Revenge"? When was that added into the show? Was it already in there by the time the recording was made and just not included for whatever reason, or was it another change that came after that?
It's silly, but I really like that one minute reprise, and am still bummed that it's not on any legit recording.

Posted: 4/11/09 at 4:41pmI was just about to say the same thing. I've always wished Velma's Revenge had been recorded. It's such a funny little reprise.

I'm pretty sure that "Blood on the Pavement" lasted more than one preview.
Unless I was really lucky and saw Hairspray the one day they did this song.
Anyway, why would they record one little blip like this if it did indeed only play to one audience during out of town previews.

My memory is the same as Marc's - we only had it in the show for the first preview in Seattle. But you can take your word for it over ours if you druther.
We recorded it because we all wanted to and we had the time in the studio.
I'd like to second Marc's last thoughts. Very little of what's presented on this board as fact actually is. Especially when it comes to personal lives or events that no one but the actual participants were present for (such as recording a cast album). Folks speak as if they know, and they rarely do. Absolutely do keep that in mind.
Hi Marc!
