Unreserved seating for all screenings of Hairspray at the Warner Multiplex in London are £13 - thats nearly -wait for it! $26 !!!
It would be interesting to hear peoples opinion on this because i know most US theatres charge around $10. $26 is around the norm in the UK

london is one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Harry Potter seats are $35.

That's nuts... at that cost, I'd wait until it was out on DVD. I used to go to the movies almost weekly when there were enough good movies out, as prices went up, my attendance dropped and I now rent more often then I go to the movies and that's for a whole lot less then the UK cost. Ouch
Whilst in London in April, I went to go see Becoming Jane before it came here. I went to the movie theatre, and I couldn't believe the prices! And that was before concessions, which were like another 6 quid. I don't think I've complained about NY ticket prices ever since...And they had the nerve to have premium seating that was like £15...and the theatre was half full. I was so confused by the reserved seating too.
I was waiting to be handed a programe and a t-shirt for that money but no then they just took another $15 for popcorn and a coke!
Out of curiosity, seeing that theatre tickets cost so much, what is the cost to rent or buy a dvd? £13 seems insane!
New DVDs average around $35-40 but quickly reduce in price after a few weeks. Cast Album CDs can cost upward of $30. Rental of DVDs is cheap though i never do. Im a collector so i buy- ooouch! When im in the States every few weeks i totaly raid the stores for everything
:-O That's all I have to say.
Just arrived at my office and by all accounts the UK went to it in droves. No figures yet but it sounds good news.
$26 the norm? Yes, because ALL UK cinemas cost the same as big London ones. :P My local one only costs me £6 ($12ish) for an afternoon of 'Hairspray', and it's not even one of those wee independent cinemas that undercut big chains 'cos it's the only way they can lure in crowds. :P

Oh man, I feel bad for you guys in the UK. Theatre tickets must be insane...
Do they like ask for your first unborn child?
Also, just to twist the knife in a little deeper-- I only paid 6 bucks to see a movie in Manhattan this weekend, and I saw Hairspray for free (Granted I had to go at 10 am on saturday morning and sneak into Hairspray, but hey you have to get the deals).
and 'we' complain about 8-12 dollars.
jeepers.
I think its weird that they can charge various prices for different movies.
To us it doesn't seem expensive, we are used to high prices. However, when we come to America it is like OMG its SO CHEAP! The food we get in a restaurant in USA would cost atleast the same in pounds as it does in dollars. Top price theatre in London now is £55-£60 so $110-$120 which seems pretty much the same as Broadway.

The $26 price is for the big cinema's in London, I live outside London (in Hillingdon) and the average price is about £5 which is what $10?! So its not all that bad.
Theatre prices are also now the same as broadway, I think we used to be a bit cheaper but now we're on the £50-60 price range which is the $100-120 mark, so yeah its not that expensive over here.
Also I saw it on the friday it came out and my screen was packed, which isn't the norm for a not so well known film, the use of Zac must have drawn in the tweens!

Come to Glasgow! Saw Hairspray in a multiplex for £4.60 (around $9) not too bad. £62 ($124) for the show ... not that's steep!
Now there's a thought. I'll be in Glasgow with my parents and 8 year old niece in a couple of weeks. And 'Hairspray' is for EVERYONE, right?
The dollar is weak at the moment so it seems expensive in England.
Our local cinema is £4.50 - £6 ($9 - $12) so much cheaper than London.
London theatre prices are pretty comparable I think, Wicked top price is £60 ($120) and Little Shop of Horrors is £45 ($90) so pretty good.
Whwn i came to New York from London last summer for a holiday i couldnt believe how cheap everything was compared to London. at the end of the day we just get used to everything being so expensive.
I always worry when people from the US come over. I'm sure they always get a shock.
I saw Hairspray in my local independent cinema (where i am a member and payed £3 (6 dollars ish) so that wanst bad.
Even i wouldnt pay to see a film in the west end of London. Its just criminal.

ok lets not get OTT here, a few cinemas in London center they charge silly prices but for every other cinema all across the UK they charge about £5($10)(thats how much i paid to watch Hairspray here in Manchester UK and we are the biggest and most popular city outside London)
New dvds are £15 , cds about £12 its hardly expensive
We just get used to paying those prices and then get carried away on visits to the States. How london can justify charging between £13 and £20 for a movie is amazing. Places like South Africa, australia and Spain which i visit very often are even cheaper than the States.
grrrrrrrrrrr its 1 or 2 cinemas stop making it a big deal, they are plenty more cinemas in London which charge the same prices as ALL OTHER UK CINEMAS.
