Is it me...or is there something missing in YCSTB without Mary Bond Davis' gritiness to her voice. It's just missing the soul.

But I can't judge without seeing the film.

LOVE the Pfeiffer pics, finally!

I agree about YCSTB. It feels like it is missing that soul. I still am excited to see the movie.

I don't care for John Travolta's look as Edna. At all.

The soul will be in her performance. We all know the Queen has it.

I really don't know about that recording it has no emotion in it like the original cast or any performer on broadway. I can't picture her moving to it like the actresses do. Oh well I guess we'll see this summer! I love the pics!

we need to bring back harvey and the rest of the obc....it's so frustrating how people with big names are playing, not those who had the heart and soul to create these fun roles...i guess this is just a reflection on the media today that there are so many celebrities stealing the roles in musical theater...oh well....i guess it keeps the actors in the ensemble working lol

And does anyone else hear one or two prominent male voices at the end of the song? They seem to overpower the chorus...and they're off-key.

Listen - I loved the original cast. And when performances are so set in your mind it may be difficult to "let that go". I have heard cast albums that fail to capture the energy of a show, and I have heard cast albums that make the show sound better than it was.

Part of the experience is also the visual aspect. And this was only one small clip of one song. This isn't even Motormouth's BIG number.

In other words... while everyone is definitely entitled to their opinion - perhaps we should be waiting to SEE the film before passing any judgements.

My .02

p.s. This isn't even the actual track neccessarily. It's a clip used for the website. It's very possible it's a quick mix and not the final one.. or perhaps created specifically for this bit of marketing.

I agree about not passing judgement, and I'm not...yet. I'm just saying that from that little snippet it doesn't strike me as a passionate performance. I'm waiting to see the movie because I know that it could sound off to me right now, but be perfect in the movie.

FOAntic - perhaps it is Travolta - which would make sense if he wasn't perfect.

Anyway, I don't know about anyone else but I have two words: Christopher. Walken.

Good work on the blog Mateo! And Queen Latifa sounds like she can pull of Motormouth! I am excited for the movie now! Except for Amanda Bynes.

Walken can do no wrong in my book. I would go see him read a phone book because he would turn it into sheer comic brilliance.

I agree with Craig, though. I'm not passing judgements. It is very early on in the process and this may not be the final cut of the song.

I think a big gigantic congratulations are in order for Mateo, who came from being a simple fan to actually managing the OFFICIAL blog for the movie! Congrats!

And I think this just looks, sounds, and feels fantastic. I'm not a fan of Travolta's casting, but everyone else looks in top shape, and it just looks like they're having fun with it. A lot of fun. Allison Janney looks fantastic, as does Walken, Stiller, Pfeiffer, Snow, and Efron especially!

And Nicole Blonsky is just about the coolest girl in the world right now.

My only concern is that it appears as if Queen Latifah is the star, and she most certainly is not (nor should be). Motormouth Maybelle is a big part, but merely supporting. I hope it's not marketed as such.

foa- from my fan blog. I was asked and now I think people can see why I stopped with the fan blog a few months ago.

I still make spelling errors and oddball comments- but I will try to be more proffesional about teh whole thing.

It is pretty exciting
