Hmmm...I have a feeling the movie is going to more the quality of RENT and PHANTOM and less CHICAGO and DREAMGIRLS: a lot of the elements here don't feel "right" but hopefully it will at least be fun - above all, that is what any film of HAIRSPRAY should be.
But many congrats to you Mateo. That is a very exciting and cool "gig".

MB, Emo Thank you!
MB- 'quality' is a hard thing to judge until you at least see footage- if not the full picture. If anything I think Hairspray will be a light-hearted, entertaining, 'fun' movie - like you said.

OK. Where are people hearing the song? I clicked on the link and all I see is a logo.
I saw the original "Hairspray" film tonight. It was showing with "Cry Baby" at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco.

That's it.
I'm moving back to San Francisco ASAP, and I'm bringin' Ivan with me. I've missed too many damn movies at the Castro.
And Mateo, I am thrilled that you're now the OFFICIAL blogster. That's so cool!
I love it.
And those who complain that the original cast isn't being used, go cry somewhere else. That irks me to no end.

Wow! Great stuff!
This film is going to be a summer hit, thanks to the success of DREAMGIRLS.
Thanks to the positive word-of-mouth DREAMGIRLS is garnering and bringing in people who generally keep away from movie musicals (excluding CHICAGO), the average Joe will be open-minded enough come July 2007 to let himself see HAIRSPRAY the Movie Musical.
Any version of HAIRSPRAY crosses over well with audiences -- the original 1988 film did; the 2002 Broadway musical adaption did and I expect the film-adaption of the musical version will also.
Woof!

First off, major congrats to you, mateo!
And I really am very very excited about this film! I love the whole vintage kind of look it has, and the cast really looks great! I cant stop watching that little intro thing on the site :)

Craig, Are you kidding? Some people on this site's only reason to get up in the morning is to judge something that's not finished!

The pictures are AMAZING. Nikki looks great, Amanda looks awesome and Brittany looks beautiful.

I don't think positive word of mouth on DREAMGIRLS is going to necessarily do much for HAIRSPRAY. I mean, positive word of mouth on the film of CHICAGO didn't exactly help PHANTOM or RENT. HAIRSPRAY will have to generate its own positive buzz to be a hit.
HAIRPSRAY does have a "starry" cast though, which I think is absolutely key to generating interest in movie musicals for mainstream audiences. Even if the film isn't great, I'm sure a fair number of people will be curious to see that cast singing and dancing - especially Travolta.

hello all
just wanted to jump in to make clear: what is up on the website right now is a temporary mix (by someone other than myself!).
REST ASSURED, when the final vocals and tracks for the film are completely recorded (which they are not) new orchestrations added (which won't be for months) and mixed to glory, any fan of HAIRSPRAY will be deliriously happy, or I will eat my hat.
Right now, I will choose to focus on how exciting it is for BWW's own "Mateo" to have been hired by the movie studio to work on the film's website. The good spirit and artistry he brought to his own blog totally won everyone over, and he is to be congratulated!
Happy Holidays!

I hate these kinds of "previews" only for the fact that everyone seems to be unable to realize that this is not the finished product, and, pictures do not a whole movie make.
See the movie. Then judge.

Thank you Marc.
I wish I could take credit for the site, but that's all thanks to the great artistry at Newline.

Finally! A movie-musical not desperately trying to be a legendary drama! I'm glad that when I go to the movie theatre next summer, there will be a fun and exciting movie musical waiting for me. This trend of "heavy" pieces (i.e. RENT and Phantom) has really began to bore me. Imagine going to the movies every day and they were only playing Yentl and Sophie's Choice!
Excited for this, and congratulations Marc and Mateo.
