Posted: 4/8/07 at 8:37pmIt says that the rights aren't available yet, but to sign up to be alerted of when the rights will be available. They did the same thing with High School Musical. Also, it says that a musical is restricted because a large production or national tour may be in the town. Does that mean that the show can't be done until the tour is over? And if it's restricted, how do theatre's already have dates set for when they'll perform it?

Posted: 4/8/07 at 9:01pmI actually know of a regional theatre about 2 hours away from me that are doing a production of "Hairspray" this summer. The girl playing Tracy is close friends with some people I know. I'm not sure how they acquired the rights though.

Posted: 4/8/07 at 11:17pmThe Producers is available in 08 for professional licensing. Also--location is everything. If the tour (Equity or not) is playing within a certain number of miles of the venue, they won't get the rights. So they are restricted, but not everywhere.

Squee! Sorry about that. :)
What are the odds that the rights will be advailable for a show next spring? I'm helping out with a musical at my old school next year, and I want to know if Hairspray will be an option.
