youre right kerry had a different approach. as will anyone who comes along.
I think more girls have gone for the nerdy character (like the original film) rather than the shy/naive. Both are equally adorble. Everyone loves Penny, there is little to not like.
"uhm Yeah"
no official word on the casting of Tracy yet.. but I have a feeling we will start to know who people are in the next few weeks.
The last I heard, Tracy casting was down between Shannon Durig and Carly Jibson.
No offense to Jibson... but Durig has a face the screen would love.
I would have rather they went with someone fresh to the role, but I can see why they went with someone who comfortable enough with the role on stage to do it on screen.
Right. But in 'on-screen' terms. Both are fresh faces.
tis true, tis true, but why go through all the open call nonsense if they knew they were going to decide between these two from the beginning!
I know! But they might not have found what they were looking for with the open calls. That, or the studio was nervous about giving the role to an unknown, so they said 'well why not audition some of the BWAy actresses.' Since god knows there arent any big girls in hollywood to pick from.
And never underestimate the old "casting call as publicity/marketing stunt" route either. From Scarlett O'Hara to Orphan Annie to Tracey Turnblad - this is a great Hollywood tradition that usually ends with somebody not quite unknown actually getting the role...
well it certainly got the word out.
I just want to know already!
Singing matters? In a movie musical?
Wow. Someone should have told that to "Phantom"

funny because i was just thinkin that Penny doesnt have a song to herself and only really needs to sing a few verses in "Mama Im a Big Girl Now" "Without Love" and "You Cant Stop The Beat" (and I imagine Without Love being the most difficult) so unless theyre writing Penny a new song perhaps her singing voice isnt going to be all that important in the movie. If shes even an ok singer but lands the comedy, thatd be fine.

I really hope they go with Shannon Durig in the role- she was incredible, and would do great in the movie!
No one seems to be having a "God I hope she can sing!" hissy fits over the alleged casting of Michelle Pfeiffer, who has proven time and again that she can't sing. She just acts like she can.
I beg to differ regarding Pfeiffer. Now whether or not she was up to the vocal demands of EVITA, I don't know, but she can certainly handle "Baltimore Crabs."

Who the heck is Amanda Bynes? I never heard of her.

Michele Pfeifer. I like her "Cool Rider" song in "Grease 2".
Michelle Pfeiffer was cast in the role when Oliver Stone was slated to direct the film. When Alan Parker took over, she dropped out of the project because she didn't want to be running all over South America while her young children stayed in California. There are tapes out there of her singing some of the songs - I haven't heard them.
Amanda Bynes is a young actress who got her start on the Nickeoldeon kids variety show "all that" since then she has had her own Nickelodeon series "the Amanda Show" and gone on to head many Tween and Teen comedies.

Thanks, Mateo. I guess that is why I don't know who she is. I only watch "Nick at Night".
youre welcome.
And with the way Nick at Night is going (full house, fresh prince) "All That" doesnt seen very far behind. ^_~
I guess I can't say anything bad about Amanda because I haven't seen her take on the role yet, so for now I will give her the benefit of the doubt
yes, I think most of us need to learn how to do this.
