re: Hairspray in Toronto Video Clip!

Vanessa is a MUCH better singer than Marissa, although that clip may have not shown it.

Really, you think so? I think Marissa is a much, much better singer (and overall a better Tracy). Vanessa has a nice voice, but you can tell she doesn't have the endurance for it; notice the heavy panting during "You Can't Stop the Beat", and sometimes she yells the notes out rather than sing them properly.

Love the rest of this cast, though. re: Hairspray in Toronto Video Clip!

I'm trying to get tickets for the week of September 6-12th, but for some reason the Mirvish website isn't selling those dates. Is the production taking a week off? That's unusual, I've never heard of that happening before.

BlueWizard,

I think Marissa is probably a better overall actress and a better Tracy...but I think Vanessa's smokey voice suits the era and the spunky character. Her comedic timing leaves a little to be desired though.

and no tickets Sept. 6-12th...damn...I wanted to go around then...Hah... If you see a guy who looks like my avatar, mouthing all of Link's lines and dancing in his chair and embaressing his friends sitting beside him...it's probably me. Hah

re: Hairspray in Toronto Video Clip!

I'm gonna call them later today (or tomorrow), because I REALLY want tickets on September 10th.

By the way, Akiva, how do you find the Mirvish website? Does it really give the best tickets available? I'm trying for September 17th and I'm getting row M (grrrr - I hate overhang). Should I go to the box office instead?

(And I'd rather see you as Link too. I'm not that fond of the current T.O. Link - too, too old.)

BlueWizard.

Hah...It was my own stupid fault for missing my callback. But I had already booked my flight home from Toronto, and I hadn't seen my family in 4 months so figured i'd pass.

I went to the box-office (of the theatre Producers was in at the time) and it was WAY cheaper. I payed 26 dollars per ticket...that's it...no tax or extra charges. So I suggest going to the box office.

Whoa, were those rush seats or advance ones? Where were they located? I want to take some friends of mine, and we want to pamper ourselves and get the best seats: 5-8th row centre.

re: Hairspray in Toronto Video Clip!

I bought those about a week and half before the show...but keep in mind that was during previews so they prices have likely changed...they were on the top balcony, along the sides, not the greatest seats ever, but at the same time I could see and hear everything. I envy you being able to afford those good seats re: Hairspray in Toronto Video Clip!

Hah...well I guess me planning on seeing the show once every 2 months is a bit exceissive binging too. But there aren't THAT many great shows in Toronto right now, so I have to get my kick somewhere.

re: Hairspray in Toronto Video Clip!

I literally left the theatre and thought I was high. I was shaking and dancing and had SOOO much energy and couldn't sleep even though I had a flight the next day and really needed to.

I am the same way EVER time I see it.... it's the score. It has to be. Only music has that effect.

Akiva, if you really got a callback for Hairspray Toronto...and love the role as much as you do...why in the hell did you decide to 'pass'?!

Yes, "You Can't Stop the Beat" is my favourite, favourite, favourite track from Hairspray. I'm in love with every song, but that one just rockets me up to heaven.

re: Hairspray in Toronto Video Clip!

gotta love Breakfast Television....

for you Americans who don't have this joy, you must know that the quality is ALWAYS crap on this glorious morning talk show. It's really not an accurate representation of anything.
