I know that there was suppose to be a decision last week on whether the Hairspray movie was a definite go- anyone heard anything?
Plus, with all the hairspray posts about contracts etc. it got me thinking- who is the best Tracy ever?
I've got to tell you, I've seen 4 Tracys and the absolute best was Stephanie Pitsiladis. She was the cover for Vanessa Olivarez in Toronto. I was expecting to see Vanessa one day, but ended up seeing Stephanie and was blown away. The best singer, dancer and by far the best actor- absolutely Tracy. Perfect.
Anyone know what she is doing now? I would love to see her on Broadway!

Posted: 5/10/05 at 6:09pmShannon Durig (the current understudy for Broadway's Carly Jibson) is fantastic. I was amazed by her voice; it has such a whole, pure tone to it. Her comedic timing was impeccable and her dancing was amazing. She gave one hell of a performance.

Posted: 5/10/05 at 6:22pmI kind of wish that they would pull a Brooke Shields and re-record Tracy's vocals with... anyone else's. After a few songs, Marissa Jaret Winokur's Tony Award-winning nasal squeak stops being cute and becomes downright grating.

It's statements like this that say it all, really:
"I have only seen one Tracy, which was Carly Jibson. I thought she was the best."

Posted: 5/10/05 at 6:29pmI've seen Marissa, Carly and Shannon. They all brought something unique to the role of Tracy, but I really like Carly's voice. As I've stated in a previous thread, I would really like to see Leslie Kritzer (current Shelley on B-way; Tracy understudy) and Donna Vivino (original Shelley on tour; Tracy understudy) in the role.

Posted: 5/10/05 at 6:39pmi was lucky enough to see leslie go on as tracy... absolutely outstanding. I've seen carly and shannon, and i agree that they all bring something different to the role. i thought each was spectacular in their own way. i hope you get to see leslie in this role, though! she blew me away!! but i already knew she was amazing.

Marissa Jaret Winokur
Kath Brier
Carly Jibson
Keala Settle
Shoshana Bean
I am hoping to get in and see Shannon soon and hopefully catch Leslie one day on broadway and the tour standby, Katrina Dideriksen has QUITE the belt, so I hope to see HER go on in addidition to Natalie Hill (Shelley on tour whom I LOVE... also, Alyson Smith (Shelley in Toronto has quite the set of pipes.
My favorite(s) - Shoshana is a standout of course with no doubt and I have heard Les singing some of the score and love what she does. However, my favorite Tracy would be a toss up beteer the current Tracys - Carly Jibson and Keala Settle. Carly is more hyper and frenetic in her portrayal - Tracy on Speed as I call her - and Keala is a bit more nuanced and less broad in her take, turning several moments into tear jerkers, so it is a tough call.

Posted: 5/10/05 at 6:55pmI did see Shannon and she was amazing- but I still say Stephanie is the best. Her voice is so rich and powerful and her acting is incredible- I think the most real potrayal.

LittleWing brings up a question that I have yet to hear a reason for... Why is Carly Jibson out so often? Does she get sick easily or something? Was she out often when she did the tour? I was going to ask Shannon Durig at the stage door, but I forgot. LOL

Posted: 5/10/05 at 10:41pmI heard that Carly was developing vocal nodes. Maybe that explains her outs.

I have no idea Joshua... i haven't heard or read anything that explains her absences, but its pretty sad. for one, she's very talented young lady and should be taking full advantage of this amazing amazing opportunity ...
but then again, we have no idea and her reason could be completely substantiated. ah! its all jus speculation in the end!
