I loved Marissa! Other than her, my favorite is Keala was not too excited about Carly's performance.... She was good but I think Keala should come to Broadway... She was amazing! FYI: I'm not saying Carly is bad I'm just saying who I like the most... I agree, Marissa should be given the role of Tracey in the movie...

My comments on Keala - all biases I may have toward Keala aside.... the very first time I saw her, I left the theatre with the feeling that THAT is who Tracy should be. She is plucky, she ails the comedy, she has a voice with a belt that can blow the roof off, but most of all, she plays it sincere and honest. You truly feel for her more than any other Tracy. She reels you in for the moment one and you are instantly on her side. And her perfomance when LInk leaves her at the record shop actually made me tear up, sad as that my be.. her "stay.. please" line is said so lowly and with such pleading and the hope of a young girl that when he turns and leaves. You just want to hold her when she cries. I have always heard audience members rustle during th scene.. cough.. etc. EVERY time I have seen Keala, the theatre has been deathly silent at the moment. FOR ME, THAT is the moment in the show that is make it or break it for any Tracy because of those reasons. The voice and the comedy don't mean a damn if you are not able to play the heart of the piece and have the audience 100% on Tracy's side.

I've only seen 2 Tracys live. It's a tough call between Carly & Keala. I agree with some of the things that's already been said about their performances, so I won't repeat. I just want to say that both of them are great as Tracy in their own unique ways. I really love them both.

BTW, broadwayguy2, I think you summed up Keala perfectly for a person who's being unbiased. Updated On: 5/15/05 at 12:54 AM

I have never seen Keala in the role, but I'm sure that she's amazing. She is such a wonderful person and I am so happy for her and her success. I remember doing "Children of Eden" with her, and she literally jumped on me when I sang my little solo lol.

Shoshana, and EVERY other actress to play Shelley has understudied Tracy Turnblad.

I saw Leslie a week and a half ago as Tracy and I saw Vanessa up in Toronto. I heard clips of Shoshana and obviously Marissa.

For me, cause i'm a Bean fan, I obviously would choose Shoshana, but considering I never was fortunate enough to see her in the role, it wouldn't be really fair. I can't really compare Leslie and Vanessa cause they were both very different, but both very good. Vanessa seemed very 'Marissa' to me. Her vocals were pretty strong, and her acting was okay.

Leslie was great at being Tracy. She totally blew me away. I was laughing hysterically the whole show. Vocals were very 'Shoshana' ish I found, and very pop. I loved it.

Shoshana and Leslie wore padding when playing Tracy.

Just b/c I'm all OCD, I find it very ironic that, MWKBCJKS, your votes for "best tracy" are exactly opposite of how the girls are listed in your username.
