re: Hairspray the muscial movie

im with Crazy4MattMorrison, i saw kathy brier, and aside from being so distracted by the fact that she looks SOOOO old and REALLY tired (i could see the bags under her eyes from the back of the orchestra) she was just not good. maybe she got beter toward the end of her, but i did not love her.

No only does Queen Latifah not even begin to have the vocal chops to pull off Motormouth, she's waaaaaay too young for the role (34 -- Ruth Brown who created the role in the original movie was 60). How about Aretha Franklin? Or Patti Labelle?

Geez some people are really mean. Stop making nasty remarks about how Kathy Brier looks! Have you nothing better to do?

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

i thought she looked quite young and exuberant...and she fit the role perfectly!!! she could really relate!! she looks more like a tracy then marissa did, it depends on which way you like your tracys to look. and i thought her whiny, nasally voice added an awesome touch!

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

yeah. if you were trying to do and broadway show and a soap opera at the same time, i'm sure that you would look the same way.

Amen! She had no bags under her eyes from my viewpoint in the FRONT ROW. Tears during the "Good Morning Baltimore (Reprise)". She was perfect.

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

i find it fully that everyone says kathy brier is too old for tracy but no one has pointed out the same fact about the mention of kristin chenoweth as amber mentioned in the initial post.

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

I never thought she was too old. She was a great Tracy.

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

i do hope she does the movie! never noticed the tears...one single tear is more powerful than a bunch. like mary bond davis in i know where i've been.

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

Yeah she'd have this single tear running down her cheek and it was heartbreaking. She had more tears when she was talking about how Link Larkin could never love someone like her. I miss Kathy re: Hairspray the muscial movie

Whoever the other roles are going to go to, I bet they will definitely bring Harvey in as Edna. He IS Edna. It's a must. re: Hairspray the muscial movie

I think the 2nd or 3rd post mentioned Kristen was too young. But another thing, who cares? If they look the part (and she does look young) and are capable of it (unsure), then why the heck not? It's not about age, it's about talent and the look!

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

whos with me, tracys nowa days like carly jibson and vanessa olivarez are not nasally! whos with me on loving nasally tracys! its part of the role, face it, tracy is supposed to be kind of annoying!
#43

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

carly is not nasally.but i dont like nasally tracys, and i dont think tracy is suppose to be annoying, amber is suppose to be the annoying one

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

its just that, marissa made the role that way, and i've learned to love the way it is performed, i identify it as the "tracy" voice. now i don't thin kathy copied, cause she naturally has a voice sorta like that.

FINALLY,

SOMEONE mentions Patti LaBelle for Motor Mouth! She'd blow the roof off of the pop stand!

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

I'm sorry but I think that Marissa is Tracy and Kerry is Penny! I love Kerry's voice. It's so Pennyish. I think she does better than the one in the original movie.

re: Hairspray the muscial movie

Jeremy Kushiner should be Link.....or maybe even Clay Aiken could be link but I think Kathy is great but might be too old, so Carly could get the part
