'Hairspray' Gets A New Do

'Hairspray' has just announced that it is now running until March 27th 2010.
Within weeks they are to make a big announcement as to who will replace Mr Ball from July this year.
It's just great news that the show will live on after he leaves- let the speculation begin....

re: 'Hairspray' Gets A New Do

Hasn't Mr B extended until July? I reckon the show will survive without him, although I'm not sure for how long. I don't think it's as much of a vehicle for him as many people think it is. It's got a young, Wicked style following (although nowhere near as irritating) of youths who will always be interested. I reckon it'll do okay, but they'll probably get a name in just in case.

I'm hoping for Ken Morley.

Ken Morley would be fab! lol

re: 'Hairspray' Gets A New Do

Yeah he would! They need someone of that calibre... perhaps Shaun Williamson. He's fat.

Ken Morley has a great, fully trained voice.

He's that terrible man with big glasses on the Safestyle UK adverts who used to be Reg Holdsworth in Coronation Street. For some reason, I have a fascination with awful, low rent celebrities like Ken, Freddie Starr, David Griffin, Su Pollard, Cheryl Baker etc.

Off topic, but you two are confusing the hell out of me. Until I looked more closely I was thinking somebody was having a problem with multiple personalities!

As Barrowman would say, fab,fab,fab.

Could he fill the Edna shoess, certainly would not need to be high heeled!!!

Or even Graham Norton...........alright taking this a bit too far!

re: 'Hairspray' Gets A New Do

It will be a big name whenever they announce it and it will be totally unexpected as to who it will be. Remember the drop dead shock when they announced Michael Ball was to be Londons Edna and now, nearly two years later, they are begging him to stay!
Personally, I think that if Harvey loves the show so much and had such a blast opening it on Broadway and then returning to close it 5 years later he should show his face in London for 3 or 6 months

I know what you mean- Sing!?!!!? Debatable and hard to listen to on the CD but in the theatre it was a triumph to have him belt those numbers out like that.
You have to remember that it was his presence, his 'singing', his interpretation of the role of Edna in the stage version that sent that show into the glorious heights of musical comedy heaven where it always be remember alongside Broadway's greatest names in that genre.

I would like to see Feinstein in London and pay to see him, then can be more impartial!

re: 'Hairspray' Gets A New Do

"didnt he play baron bomburst in bradford last year ?"

Yep - with Kevin Kennedy (Curly Watts from Coronation Street) as Caractacus Potts. I was so not tempted by this stunt casting.

I'd agree that Ken Morley is more of a Wilbur, but I think he's most of a Ken Morley and would play his TV persona in whatever role. And I would so not see him in anything.

Shaun Williamson was rumoured to replace mel smith as wilber, thank goodness that didnt happen.

Might be someone not fat, if they can cope with moving in more padding.
