Lin said on periscope that we are going to know some of the people and Katie is leaving for Chicago the same day as Rua. Just speculation that he's going to Chicago.

If you are referring to a standby, it's not even known if the Chicago cast will have one (but it seems likely). On B'way, the only character that had a standby is Hamilton."
I think you meant alternate.

I know alternate is someone who is an alternitive, but what is the difference between standby and understudy? I really can't belive I've never thought about this.

For the performances Javier is not on does he act like a standby(^a standby sits backstage and doesn't have a regular track in the show except for the character they standby for while an understudy has a regular track in the show plus being the understudy)?

Yes.
A standby is not in the ensemble. That's the difference.

An alternate usually has 1 or 2 set shows they do a week. Christine in Phantom has one as does Kim in Miss Saigon. Standbys do not have set shows. However an alternate will be backstage as a standby would be in case anything happens(illness,injury...etc). Understudies are in the ensemble in their own track and will be used if the lead, alternate/standby can't go on.
In American Psycho the 4 swings were also listed as standbys and not understudies.

That would be because they were on principal contracts, I assume.
