Hamilton in Chicago Cast?

I have found several tickets to shows in Chicago I would like to purchase but I can find nothing about what cast will be there. I do not have lots of money so I would like to know who will be there.....I would hate to buy a ticket for my favorite actor/actress to be replaced by their understudy that day

Is there anything saying what cast will be there?/

No. Please bear in mind replacements for Leslie Odom Jr and Phillipa Soo on Broadway haven't been announced yet and those are happening in two weeks. I did hear that they were announcing the Chicago cast in July, but I don't have a source so don't take my word for it.

There will be one cast. An understudy can go on at any time -- do you know now when you'll be sick in October? Or have a family emergency?

If you are referring to a standby, it's not even known if the Chicago cast will have one (but it seems likely). On B'way, the only character that had a standby is Hamilton.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I am sorry I do not know a thing about Broadway or Theater, I am just a fan of very select shows.

I guess I misunderstood what an understudy was and I meant who would be the cast. I have heard they are getting a different cast and if my favorite actors are not in it, it is not worth the money to me. I barely have enough to spare and going to this would already be financially stupid of me but I love this musical.

It sounds like you need to rethink some of your choices.

The people on Broadway may or may not be the same ones in Chicago. In fact, they more likely will not be, by an 80 to 90% margin.

The star of Hamilton is the show. Not the people in it. And if you "don't know anything about Broadway or Theater," what difference should it make to you anyway?

If you want to be interested in theatre, you have to know that the people you will be seeing on stage is never, ever a guarantee.

Lin said it was an entirely new cast, but that "you'll know some of them." It's anyone's guess at this point.

The cast of the Chicago production will be completely different than the cast of the NYC production. The cast of the Chicago production has not been announced yet. There is no way for any of us to know if or when any understudies will appear in Chicago or NYC.

Thank you to everyone who answered my question. I could not find the answer myself and this was my second try to finding an answer.

What different it makes to me is I like the current cast of Hamilton a lot and since I am not very big on theather.....I am not sure if I do not love the people going to Chicago if I will want to spend that much money. If it were free I would still go because I do love the show regardless of cast but money is an issue for me. I did not expect rude treatment, sorry if I offended you. I don't want to have an interest in theather...usually I do not like it so I do not feel a need to know everything. I do not like rap music but I do like a few select rap songs...that is the best comparison to "I do not like theather but I like select shows"

I am sorry I am not very into theather and rather the singing voices and aura of the current cast. With a different set of people I would still enjoy it, but I don't think I would be willing to put as big of a chunk in my wallet.

I didn't expect to get treated like this for asking. Theather is just not something I absolutely adore, very select shows just catch my eye. I am sure any performance of Hamilton will be great with whatever people they choice.

OK, so if you're a neophyte to theatre (note spelling), then how do you know you won't love the Chicago cast as much as who you've loved on the Hamilton cast recording? If you already like the show, then there's a plus for you. Even people seeing the show now or a month ago were not seeing the recorded cast due to people's departures, injuries, or whatnot.

While I really would like to have seen Jonathon Groff, he only sang 3 songs. I will get over it. The NYTimes says, "This is not, contrary to what you might think, a star-driven show."

The Chicago cast will likely be quite good, but be a bit of a consumer. See what Hamilton and other shows cost. Hamilton ticket prices will come down over time. Try to get balcony seats the next time a block of seats are released even if it is a year from now. You will have something to look forward too. While you are waiting, see other shows. In NY, discount tickets are available to many great shows. Is the same true in Chicago? See a lot of shows.

No one treated you rudely, you really didn't make yourself clear...and I'm still not sure exactly what you are asking.

I HIGHLY doubt any of the leads will be from the Broadway cast, instead made up of many talented, and relatively unknown actors. I'm not sure how your 'favorite actors' could be so important if you don't KNOW any professional stage performers -- not being a fan of the art form.

And my rule of thumb....if you can't afford it, don't go.

I guess it depends if you're a bigger fan of the show or the actors. I'm sure they'll have an amazing cast, but it absolutely wont be the Broadway one.

I also saw where Lin stated no one from the Broadway cast would be in the Chicago company. I was hoping Sydney Harcourt would get to play Aaron Burr.

I'd be really excited though if Karen Olivo was in the cast.

Actually, an earlier post is incorrect: the three women on B'way have a standby: Alysha Deslorieux. I have my Playbill from October. In fact, that's the only official standby listed. Munoz is listed as an alternate, John Rua an understudy. Chicago may well follow this pattern, but it's not correct to say that only Hamilton has a standby in NYC.

Nicholas Christopher is also the standby for Washington and Burr, officially. Seems like he has only gone on for Washington for some reason, though.

Good information. My guess was, since October they added a Burr standby. In my Playbill only Andrew Chappelle was listed.

I think he's under the deal where he gets a full page insert rather than being listed, because I just saw the show last month when he was certainly in the cast, and wasn't listed. Just FYI. Austin Smith, who has been going on as Burr, is an understudy not a "standby."
