Agreed. I don't think it's a BOM/Wicked situation.
"
I disagree. This isn't about specific actors, it's about the show and the concept. It's going to be a hard tix to get for a while.
"
I don't think that the place will be empty but I don't think the prices are going to stay up there and eventually it will slow down. I don't think it's going to have a decade sell out run. But I could be wrong.

That is just the main theatre audience. There doesn't seem to come much interest from other groups.

Like they say, if there is a will there is a way.
The idea that only old white people are interested is patently untrue for this show.

So why are there only 2 people of color in de audience? They could book in advance too.

This show, live, is now only accessible to a very narrow demographic. That was the whole point of Ray's pointing that out.

I was one of two people of color that I saw in the audience
When I saw it over Labor Day there were significantly more people of color than I ever see in Broadway houses. The prices have gone up three or four times since then.

And now everybody understands the end of Citizen Kane.
So why does everyone say that the current cast would be hard to top?
Above post was in response to a deleted sex joke, before anyone explains that the cast of Hamilton is very good.

Because it's so perfectly cast and I think people who have seen the OBC are going to be less likely to return to a new cast but if you have no frame of reference then you still may go but I doubt that it would fetch 1-2k per seat. I guess we will have to wait and see.

The conventional wisdom that only old white people are interested in this show (or Broadway in general) is belied by the audiences at this show (every time I've seen it, maybe the non-white audience has dropped as prices rise and availability drops), Color Purple, Allegiance, and any other show I've ever been to that isn't lily white. A lot of people want to see shows that resonate with them and represent them.
On the prices, people can understand supply and demand and still be appalled at seeing it in action. I suspect Hamilton's producers are smart people who understand basic economic principles, and I bet they're not happy with the amount of money flowing to scalpers. Doesn't mean they need someone to explain supply and demand to them.
I think most casual theatergoers don't care about whose in the cast as much as posters here. The prices will drop, but I expect it'll still be a hard ticket for a couple of years. The young Hamilfans who are making fanart on Tumblr can't get tickets now, but they'll come after the OBC leave.

You guys are aware that the cast recording is currently #12 on iTunes and has sold a lot. Probably more than any other cast recording in a long time and since the musical is almost completely sung through it tells the whole story. Yeah probably most of the audience seeing it live is white but it is reaching a wider audiences. On tumblr there are so many young fans, many of which are people of color who haven't seen the show. The prices will decrease eventually when hype dies down and when the cast changes.
I do agree that there is some sort of irony to the fact that Lin cast POC to "represent America now" but most people seeing the show live right now are going to be rich white people. I don't think he controls the prices though.

you don't need to "think." you can be assured that Lin has nothing to do with those prices
Supply.
Demand.
It's pretty simple, actually. . .
Standard Tickets:
If you have a little more flexibility in when you can attend and where you want to sit, Standard Tickets are the most affordable option. These tickets sell fast, so the further in advance you can purchase them the better seating options you will have.
Premium Tickets:
Premium Tickets are selected by the company as the best seats in the house. These tickets are more expensive but like Standard Tickets should be purchased in advance for best availability.
Authorized Reseller Tickets:
If you want to see the show as soon as possible, Ticketmaster offers resale tickets through authorized sellers. These are the only resale tickets that are guaranteed legitimate. They are often priced higher than Standard and Premium Tickets but may be available for performances that are sold out of Standard and Premium Tickets.

oh i know he has nothing to do with it. Bad wording.
I truly don't think anyone in this thread doesn't understand the concept of supply and demand. You're allowed to kvetch about something you understand.

In 50 years of theatre going, I do t think I've seen anything like this. I think it is going to be a monster for years to come. We are not talking about The Producers, where Lane / Broderick WERE the show to a lot of people. People want to see Hamilton. Outside of the type of people on this board, no one has ever heard of anyone in the cast other than LMM (and maybe Jonathan Groff), and they largely know about LMM because of all the publicity about his writing book, music, lyrics AND starring in it. I have tickets for May and October and I will be disappointed if LMM and the original cast is not in it in May, but I am assuming a number of them may not be in it by October, particularly LMM...but it doesn't lower my interest in seeing the show. Just as BOM, Wicked, Lion King, Phantom, etc. are not impacted by cast changes, neither will Hamilton.

the only person i think that it would be a big deal if they leave is Lin. He's started to develop such a huge following and seems to have a lot of dedicated fans. But a lot of that was due to Hamilton so idk. I think as long as they cast strong replacements for the cast it will still continue to be a huge draw. The main appeal isn't the cast it's the subject matter and musical style and the fact that it's diverse.
lol Sorry, Scary. And yet Dave 19 lives.

I also think it's going to run a long long time and I think tickets will always be high, but I really do believe that a lot of the speculative ticket buyers ("Flip This Hamilton Ticket!" coming soon to A&E) are counting on the finite number of shows Miranda has in him to inflate what they are able to command. There will always be premium seats, but I don't think they will aways be $477 (or whatever height they reach in the post-Tonys fever).
Just using The Lion King as an example, and 17 years after opening and touring every nook and cranny in the country, they finally get around to announcing a pricing scheme to make the show more affordable for the average theater goer. Because of that I think many of us will be well into our dotage by the time A.Ham gets around to that.

I think they are doing a program where school group can see the show for free or $10 or something right? I saw a group of kids, many who were minorities, at a Wednesday matinee. They seemed to really be enjoying it.

That, in my opinion, is a separate discussion from what the general public will be paying and a way that ameliorates the criticism that the show is TOTALLY inaccessible to people who would benefit enormously by having a chance to see it.
