Hamilton tickets?

Cancellation line. There are frequently tickets available the day of the performance (either unused house seats or people who had to exchange for some other reason). Traditionally theaters start selling these when the box office opens, but at the Public you put your name on a list when the box office opened and they didn't read names until right before the performance. Closer to when previews start there should be information available on what their process will actually be. You often are waiting in line for several hours but it's actually kind of fun and you get to meet people. I've done it several time and always enjoyed it. It's good to do it with a friend so you can trade off but if you have to go alone, people are usually pretty good about holding each other's spots if you have to go to the bathroom or something.

Since the show hasn't started yet it's hard to say how early you'd need to get there but for other shows I've typically arrived around 9 or 10 and usually been first. (Sometimes by a lot!) I've never not gotten tickets (but a friend has).

You can spend a small fortune on Stub Hub. The scalpers have taken a liking to Hamilton and are selling hundreds of tix for each performance on Stub Hub. Might some have been held and will be released from the box office? Sure, but I haven't heard anyone being aware of it happening.

The show will have a lottery according to the website.

House seats are held and released from the box office all the time (usually 48 to 24 hours before the show). It is not at all uncommon. Even StubHub does ticket dumps when a show doesn't perform as well as expected.

Are cancellation line tickets usually regular price?

I should note, however that most shows will let you enter the lottery while you're in the cancellation line. (I've heard of shows making you choose. That wasn't the case at the Public.)

OP was looking for tricks to get tix (not necessarily "RIGHT NOW"), and mentioned that s/he had gotten tix for BoM 1 week ahead of time and observed that "shows [seem to] always block seats and then slowly release seats closer to the date."

I was merely confirming that his/her observation was accurate (house seats are most definitely being held back), and gave them a time frame in which to look for them to be released, if they are not used.

No tickets will be dumped for this sucker.

If I had a dime for every house seat for a hot show (Producers. BoM, etc) that I had to get rid of because of illness, travel problems, etc, I could retire. Of course I wouldn't count on it, but the OP was looking for options. If he shows up when the box office opens 24 to 48 hours before the night he wants to see the show and is prepared to pay orchestra rate, he stands a chance of getting a ticket.

You need cash for the lottery. I've never seen it make a difference for cancellation line any time I've done it--they just go down the line and you can buy 1 or 2 tickets. However since you can usually enter lottery from the cancellation line it's wise to always bring cash. And I think it's always a good idea to carry some cash when looking for tickets because you never know when an opportunity might arise to buy one off someone.

I agree on bringing cash. Most lotteries and rush are cash only (as Hamilton will be) so I always plan on paying cash and am pleasantly surprised when card is accepted. And being prepared just in case someone is trying to sell an extra one is a good point.

But, from my experience buying from the cancellation line, card is usually accepted. I think the only time I was told cash only for cancellations was for Lion King years ago.
