I saw the trailer and it makes me want to run right out and see anything else. It's looks like Waiting for Guffman without the humor or intelligence.
I saw the movie a few weeks ago and loved it. Very funny and cute. Steve Coogan does a wonderful job; he's hilarious. I wish it had focused more on showing even more of the school's production of Hamlet 2, because that was definitely the best part.

I saw a screening tonight and anyone who likes theater (especially anyone actually involved in it) will love it. My friend and I who are performers thought it was great, my two friends who are not liked it but weren't quite as enthusiastic as we were. We all agreed it will find a cult following, though. I think they could have done a little more with some of the songs of the Hamlet 2 production because it was getting more straight-through chuckles than all out hysterical laughter, but it's still enjoyable. And Skylar was there checking out the screening too!
Also, Elisabeth Shue runs away with the movie, she's hilarious!
I am so ridiculously excited for this movie!!!

Bump!
I saw a screening of this last night. While I was pretty much exhausted, it was still very funny. It wasn't what I was expecting, but I definitely enjoyed it. Steve Coogan is a comic force, and hilarious performances from both Skylar Astin and Phoebe Strole (and Catherine Keener and Elizabeth Shue).
Has anyone else seen it yet?

I thought this movie was hilarious in a weird way. I think, like someone previously said, more of the school's production should've been shown. I loved the "New York" cameo at the end!
i cannot wait to see this! it looks hilarious.
Saw it today. I was actually pretty dissappointed in it. It didn't seem to know what kind of movie it wanted to be. Parts of it were funny, but other parts dragged.
it lacked transitions and backstory. Like all of the sudden the students CARE about their production, but there is no moment that tells us WHY. Phoebe Strole's character goes from being afraid of the Latino's to talking "street": again without any transition.
I only paid 6 bucks....so not wasted, but I wouldn't fully reccommend it.

I loved that the theater that Hamlet 2 eventually plays in was the Nederlander. Very cool.
Saw the movie tonight. It's far from refined -- actually quite choppy (editing & story-wise) -- but hysterical nonetheless. Every moment I was ready be bored, I suddenly found myself guffawing in my popcorn. Anyone devoted to theater definitely should see it.
As a “We-made-it-to-Broadway” film, it ranks right up there with MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN and WAITING FOR GUFFMAN. In fact, the student production itself might rank the best among the three.
And I totally agree with the comments above:
1) Elizabeth Shue is gorgeous in this show . . . She hasn’t aged a bit since KARATE KID, and her acting is absolutely superb;
2) (**SPOILER**) It's freakin’ hysterical that the show winds up at the Nederlander;
and
3) We don't see enough of the show or the moments in rehearsal when the cast members finally "bond" to it and each other.
But a really great film just the same!
SEE IT!!!

Did anyone else feel like there wasn't enough of Amy Poeler's character? She's very funny in it, but almost felt like a cameo; It was a little disappointing to me.

i just got back from a showing here in san diego (i can't believe they show that movie here... we rarely get indies like this) and i am in agreement with those of you who think it's choppy... now don't get me wrong... i laughed and i thought it was great (i like this type of humor)... but as a movie there was basically no real story... why did the kids suddenly love theater when they had no interest in it ever... it was like one scene they were the noisy obnoxious class that didn't care to be there then the next scene they were rehearsing a scene... the subplot with keith coogan and his wife was just odd and out of place... why did the mexican kid want to do the play so bad... what was his reason.... despite these realy big loopholes in the movie, it was actually quite funny and i enjoyed myself...
and yes... elisabeth shue is hilarious... her reaction shots to the musical were priceless!
I felt that both Amy Pohler and Elisabeth Shue were underused....they didn't affect the story line at all. (I don't want to give anything away...so I won't say specifics.)
And yes, Lasagna, I agree with your thoughts on the lack of transisitions. (see my previous post)
