The staircase coming down is there in the video in all its glory! You just have to take a look!!!
My entire family went to see this in Stratford - though as I was only 6 years old at the time, I got left at home My grandmother (who had organised the trip) took pity on me and brought me back a poster as compensation which I still have somewhere. My mum and dad said it was fairly enjoyable, though apparently the rest of the family were unimpressed...
EDIT: The West End Whingers have also paid tribute to the show in their own unique way:

If you go to the website WiCkEDrOcKS posted a link to, you can find a very nice treat.
In fact, to make it easier for all of you, here's the page with the treat: http://carriefansite.blogspot.com/2008/02/carrie-musical-sheet-music.html

Omg I love this show. This is prolly one of the most often things I listen to here. The songs are amazing especially the ones with Carrie and her mother.

I recently tried to get the rights from the writers. They said they are not licensing it out until they get a new version of the show set. They are supposedly workshopping it this year.
Here's the deal though. The pop ballady stuff between Carrie and her mom is not going to fly in 2008 as it might have in 1988. Also, unless they're planning on re-writing every note of the teenager material, they had better be planning to present it as camp or else it will be made fun of once again.

Oh no I love the pop ballad numbers. That is why I love Frank Wildhorn so much.
Omg, this show is one of my guiltiest pleasures EVER!!!
I hate all of you who had the chance to see it live. XD

I disagree with the description of the White's songs as "pop ballads." Those are soaring musical theatre numbers that don't sound out of place. It was the REST of the over-blown score that doesn't fit.
And to say an 80s pop ballad doesn't fit today means you clearly haven't heard of Les Miz. Or Phantom.
Droves of rabid 'Carrie bleeders' have descended upon my site today and I tracked them back to this thread. So, since you're so quick to take the "treat" SweeneyPhanatic linked, I was wondering if some of the more hardcore bleeders could share some information with me...
I'm trying to compile sort of a check-list of what's circulating relating to the musical of 'Carrie.' I did a bunch of tedious research a few months ago and discovered quite a bit -- then somebody sent me a pretty comprehensive list of audio recordings that I finally added a few days ago. I have a feeling there's more video, scripts, scores, etc. that I've yet to discover and/or get detailed info on. So if you're particularly knowledgeable on the subject, I'd appreciate it if you give me some feedback on this list:

Also, can anybody tell me if Darlene Love discussed the show in her autobiography? I haven't gotten around to buying it yet and keep wondering if it needs to be cited.
Looking at these pictures, I'm reminded of Ken Mandelbaum's book "Not Since Carrie". But, I'm not reminded of anything that he wrote about "Carrie".
In his book, he has a couple of pictures of the Carol Channing flop "The Vamp" and captions them by saying something like "How could the producers ever have thought that a show that looked this weird would ever be a hit?"
I used to have a ton of clippings and reviews that a friend of mine in Scotland, who is a fellow Barbara Cook fan, sent me and I used to have the "TheatreWeek" magazine all about it. But I lost them in an apartment fire caused by my then roommate.
Darlene Love does discuss "Carrie" in her autobiography. But she basically talks about the dances, how hard she worked, how much weight she lost and how her boyfriend enjoyed her new bootylisciousness.
I always thought that it was a crime that Betty Buckley wasn't even nominated for it. When you think that Delores Grey WON a Tony for a show that only lasted a week, Betty should have at least been nominated.
I love that the vi i got from the RSC archives 8 years ago has become so popular (i copied it for about 2 people 8 years ago and now its everywhere lol).I still have the master copy here (it also has some bits and bobs on that i never copied for anyone, i thought i would keep them just for me lol)
I looooooooovee Carrie. I know that if the rights come out i'm going to be hounding every director I know to do it and let me be Tommy. If you go onto Imeem the have the whole show on recording, plus a song that was cut in previews called "Tommy's Poem" which is one of my favorites for auditions.

That video has been around longer than 8 years....
lol know its not, i got in 1999 july 17th from the RSC.Reason i know, it was my mates birthday who worked at the Archives in the RSC
Thanks for the info on Darlene Love's book, sondheimboy2. I'm sorry to hear about the fire... but at least you escaped it.
And yes, it's a travesty that Betty didn't snag a nomination. But if I'm remembering this correctly, 'Carrie' debuted a little too late to be nominated for the '88 Tonys and was sort of forgotten by '89 (but don't quote me on that). Although there was a rampant underground interest, it wasn't until '91, when Mandelbaum's book was published, that the play garnered some more mainstream notoriety... that's continues to build momentum today.
And myshikobit, I love Todd Graff's rendition of "Tommy's Poem" too. I wish I could find more music from the workshop.

Hmm I was thinking I had all of the music from the workshop. I will have to see if I still have it.
i thought Tommys Poem was dreadful, the scene was fine just the song was weak

are you sure you aren't talking about the Broadway Act 1 video? Because i know the RSC video was a pretty big find when it started really showing up.

Wow maybe I was special
haha No I'm not talking about Broadway act 1. I had a VHS of the London Carrie with Barbara Cook in middle school, very pre-1999. My theatre teacher gave me a copy.
lol OK well the show was still classed as "none existent" amongst huge theatre traders until i got it but if you say a teacher gave it you then a teacher gave it to you lol
