75 years old, cause was Pancreatic cancer according to the AP.
RIP.
Sad to hear it. I briefly dated his niece in college.
Dang, they are really dropping off...

May he rest in peace.
"They" aren't dropping off quickly. Tens of thousands of people die each and every day. Some of them happen to be famous.
And...that's not what I meant, but ok. Thanks for clarifying?

I carried his bags when the Annie tour came through when I was a teenage bellboy. Man was Annie's mom pissed he got the bigger suite.
Oooooo...Six Degrees of Finding Namo! It's only four degrees, but it's a unique bond we share. I wonder how many other Harve Presnell stories we can find around here. Maybe we can create something akin to Alice Pieszecki's "Chart".
Mister Matt, I knew what you meant. Just wanted to add my 2 cents.
The last time I saw him was in Annie Warbucks & he was right on in playing him. He also was famous (or infamous) for play Rhett Butler in the London musical "Gone With The Wind" . He was the only good thing in the movie Paint Your Wagon with his voice booming "They Call The Wind Maria"
RIP

Was it not that bad? Did the critics have it in for it?

My sister had the biggest crush on him when she saw the film version of "Molly Brown". I couldn't figure out what the big attraction was. I mean the voice was beautiful but other than that I just didn't see anything special. Then I saw him with the black wig and goatee in "Paint Your Wagon" and WOWOWOWOWEEEE!!! I know it makes me extremely shallow and embarrasingly normal - but who cares? I kept waiting for him to appear in more musicals but sadly, Molly Brown pretty much marked the end of the big Hollywood musicals. Imagine what a career he would have had in films if he'd just come along 10 or 20 years earlier!
RIP Harve. Blond, brunette, or Warbucks bald, you were still a mighty fine looking gentleman!

"He's goin' to MAC-Donald's instead of finishin' here!"
I shall miss this man, if only for being involved with one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
A fine performer. Musical and jubilant in "Molly Brown" and with a deadly focus in "Fargo"...a great performance. Rest his soul.
I used to watch Lois & Clark when I was in high school back before the days of imdb. Back then I had no idea that Lois Lane's dad was the same guy from Molly Brown
He was brilliat in ANNIE 2: MISS HANNIGAN'S REVENGE. Rest in peace.
Sad news. I actually saw GONE WITH THE WIND .... he was a bright spot in a jaw-dropping experience.
Wow. You are so lucky to have seen GONE WITH THE WIND, TimesSquareRegular. I'm sure it was an experience to remember.
Yes, GWTW was really something special .... not necessarily in the nicest sense. Unfortunately I was not there any of the performances when the horse displayed his lack of toilet training.
I never saw Mr Presnell on stage in MOLLY BROWN, but I did see him in ANNIE WARBUCKS and in a 1970's production of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN with Debbie Reynolds, which re-christened the long-dormant Orpheum in San Francisco. Loved his voice.
Get out the DVD's and CDs and enjoy a wonderful
Voice and presence.

To lower the discourse just a tad, in the film Molly Brown, Harve Presnell is packing something very serious in the front of his well-fitted trousers. That's an overlooked Oscar for Costumes AND Set Decoration.
Back to the high road--pity Presnell didn't stay in NY. Think of the leading man roles he would have been up for: La Mancha (or any Kiley role), Clear Day, Follies, Night Music, any Preston role, and perhaps even Company.
I was fortunate enough to see him live on two different occasions:
1) in early 1974 at the cavernous Arie Crown Theatre in Chicago in SHOW BOAT; co-starring with Mickey Rooney (whom Harv - as he was then spelling his name - TOWERED OVER) and an actress named Linda Michele (whatever happened to her I wonder? - she did A LOT of summer stock and tours in the '70s). She replaced Kathryn Grayson who called in sick; which was often her habit.
2) in one of the several subsequent re-writes of Annie 2 a/k/a Annie Warbucks at the Marriott Lincolnshire outside of Chicago in 1992.
