Looks official! With Douglas Hodge (YAY)!
West End La Cage Revival Will Play Broadway
^^ Hopefully Philip Quast (the original Georges in this production, who's currently reprising his performance in London) will also transfer - he and Hodge and spectacular in these roles.
There are two things I don't like about this version:
- The "Zaza is here" moment in "Mascara" doesn't have the impact it should, they need to re-do the costume and possibly the staging for that bit.
- The flat set needs to be re-designed slightly: there's no clean exit upstage, which results in a few slightly odd moments where you see the actors walk on just before they make their entrance.
But in every other respect this is an outstanding production. I definitely have doubts about whether it will be successful on Broadway at the moment - for the reasons already mentioned in this thread - but I hope it is. Though they really need to find the right theatre for this - I'm not familiar with the smaller Broadway theatres - but a big house would completely kill it.
Here's a slightly bigger picture of "mother":

I did NOT love the last re-incarnation. I have to admit: I'm stunned to see how much of the audience didn't already know they were men in drag.
(But then again, when I choreographed WSS for my HS about 6 or 8 years ago, I couldn't believe how few people knew about the killings.)
Let the theatre predictions commence. Nederlander?

Far too large. This is the world's smallest production of LA CAGE ever.
I'm hoping for the Circle in the Square.
I was just about to suggest The Circle.
Very excited for this production...hopefully it will get the bad taste out of my mouth from Zak's awful revival.

At the Circle, they can create table seating like in London. There is audience participation. Well, kinda...
Not Circle, which is apparently receiving Our Town in early 2010. But they are aiming for a small Broadway playhouse.

That's an interesting (wonderful) development.
For those who haven't seen it, this is how they've got the theatre in London set up with tables at the front of the stalls:

OK, I would seriously camp out and actually pay to see the show (opposed to waiting for a freebie through school) if they bring Philip over!
The latest is that John Barrowman is going to take over Allam's role in like Nov or something.
I would love to see this. I missed it when it was on Broadway a few years ago. I was supposed to go see it with school, but we ended up seeing another show instead (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels). Although I enjoyed DRS, I would have liked to see this, especially with Gary Beach.
The Helen Hayes or the Booth might work. If LA CAGE is there and PRISCILLA too, won't it be a very pink 2010.
