Funny you mention POKEMON LIVE: I've actually been trying to reach out to Nintendo about a different theatrical licensing item.

We are talking about a general public who has to be told do not call 911 asking to be let into fire stations to catch Pokemon, so I'm sure if your scenario hasn't already happened at some show it'll be happening sometime over the next few days.
I was glad to see the number of theatres or theatre-related landmarks flagged as PokeStops, as well as the numerous works of public art, obscure monuments, and other small, easily missed, sights. I'm seeing things I've never even noticed after living here for 8 years. Friezes and statues above eye-level on buildings, plaques and cornerstones on buildings, murals on odd blocks. It's been nice to be given a map of things that are all around but not noticed because they're small or out of the way or otherwise not notable enough to be mentioned in overviews of the area.
It's also been nice to talk and share moments with strangers of all backgrounds. I've been stopped on the street because someone's noticed I've been playing, I've been in groups in Bryant Park pursuing a rare monster, I've had friendly rivalries with people in my neighborhood. All different races, gender, ages. I think in a world that's screwed up and divisive, people are really happy and eager to share something fun that puts everyone on an equal level.
Obviously some people will do something stupid or inappropriate. But people also literally riot after sporting events, and that's been happening since before Pokémon.
I'm with you, Kad. I think this is a good thing, an interesting cultural phenomenon, a fun time-waster. Definitely the most culturally "important" video game in years due to the level it has not only swept society but actually physically CHANGE the way mainstream games are played.
That said, I paraphrase George Carlin on war: "Thank God we've got smart bombs. Our kids are still f***ing dumb, but the bombs are smart at least." Replace that with smartphones and you've got an explanation for why so many mishaps are going on today. One of my current "Godspell" castmates plays obsessively behind the wheel despite his VERY long history of accidents. It's not gonna end well for him, but it's not the game's fault, it's his.
Yes, Kad! I haven't had a lot of the chance encounters other people have, but I've definitely had fun discovering monuments, murals, and other fun things in my neighborhood and even in midtown that I didn't know about or never thought much of.
People will always do dumb things at inappropriate times. Sure, this is one more thing to distract them, but if it hadn't been this it'd been something else.
I was delightfully surprised to discover the entrance to my apartment complex in Harlem was a PokeStop- there's statue work above the entryway I never really paid attention to before.
Unfortunately, distracted drivers wind up killing or maiming others while they most often survive. The penalty is generally a slap on the wrist.
But sometimes they just hurt themselves!

that is what is called Darwin
Pokemon Go is selfies on speed.
Barnum was right . There is a sucker born every minute.

Some of these mindless robots would probably do it without hesitation."
I know, what's up with these disgusting cretins who happen to enjoy playing a game you don't care for? :)
Nothing as long as they do not endanger others like Kads friend. If they want to get hurt or killed doing this fine. When they endanger others is where the problems come in.If they think this little for their safety and this takes over their every waking moment it is both sad and a little weird .To each his own.
But Mr. Roxy, it's free! Right up your alley!
I didn't mention a friend endangering anyone.
Is there A Hamilpokie yet?
Hey Adam, did you take an extra snotty pill or are you always like this? I think you know what you can do.
Kad, someone driving distracted can hurt anyone.

Yes. That is indisputable.
But the fact remains, I never mentioned a friend driving while playing the game.
These two idiots jumped a fence and broke into the Toledo Zoo playing the game. Geez!!!

The defense rests.

Yes, you definitely need a rest.
It's kind of funny how Pokemon Go has (sorry) evolved. And if you hate it, you can find plenty of reasons to do so. If you love it, same there too.

What does it actually contribute to society, though? Beyond Kad's one or two inconsequential anecdotes about some sort of "community building?"
Why does it have to "contribute" anything, as a leisure activity?
Kad , are you related to adamgreer?

Roxy, do you ever acknowledge that you're incorrect?
