Do they have different wigs for different Elphabas? Often Idina's wig hair looks all frazzled out and disgustingly dry but SJB always seems to have long glowing shiny wig hair.
I'm pretty sure wigs are used becuase natural hair can be so inconsisten with moisture and styling so wigs are just easy to keep constant. They can also be used to hide mic packs etc.
I read somewhere about Megan Hilty when she had dark hair at the stage door on broadway or in LA, some fans of the show where like 'Who did you play' she obviously said Glinda 'No we just saw the show and Glinda had blonde hair' She explained that she was infact Glinda and wore a wig they where very rude and denied that she was Glinda and she should stop lying.
Hannah Waddingham definitely wore a wig during the Act 2 lament, since her hair right now is short and blonde.
Are we sure Sara didn't wear a wig during that song?
I think wigs are a great help in professional theatre. How we long for them in high school productions when we all come in two hours early just to curl hair.
Now that I've actually looked close at pictures of Sara, I was wrong in assuming she was not wearing one during Diva's Lament. Sure, it looked very similar to her natural color and length, but I have to say Sara's natural hair is so much prettier. There are also features about her hair that the wig did not have.

Is anyone else really unnecessarily bugged by the way the subject is phrased? Like it's just so revolutionary and unthinkable that a BRUNETTE could possibly play a BLONDE?! or something?
All of the Elphie's on Broadway are blondes and there's 3 blonde Glinda's and one redheaded Glinda(that would be Lindsay). When Lindsay played Glinda for 4 shows this past spring nobody at SD knew who she was or who she played. They always think that she's Nessa since Cristy has red hair also. Also when Julie was playing Elphie on a Saturday matinee she came out at SD and said "I was Elphaba" since no one had any reaction to her coming out except me and my friend I was with. Sorry to ramble on.
