It's been doing random screenings at festivals for months it seems but I haven't really heard any buzz or reviews about it. What happens to independent films like these that don't appear to be picking up any buzz....do they just get released on DVD eventually?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
According to the COMING UP ROSES Facebook page, the film is still trying to find a home. I imagine it will just get released on DVD, though. Either way, I just really want to see it.
In this film, 62-year-old Bernadette Peters (likely her age at the time of filming) has a 15-year-old daughter??? Yeah, that's a fantasy life all right!

You wouldn't even look near as good as she does at 62, not even in a fantasy!
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
I meant to add - and there's absolutely no reason why we should expect her to look 20 years younger than she is. There's absolutely nothing attractive about an obsession with youth or "looking young." She's 62; let the old girl look 62.
Many of Bernadette's youthful qualities are natural. Sure, she dyes her hair and wears makeup, but it's not like she's gone under the knife a dozen times. She eats right, exercises regularly, doesn't drink alcohol in excess, and leads an overall healthy lifestyle.
There's no rule that says someone who is 63 should look a certain way. Bernadette looks the way she does because, well, that's the way she looks. I certainly don't think she has an obsession with looking young. I do think, however, that she likes to look good, but there's nothing wrong with that. Bernadette's appearance is always very classy and refined.
Bernadette is a natural beauty. I don't think age needs to come into play.
I do agree that it does look 'natural', although I'm not necessarily convinced that she hasn't had work done. The skin on her forehead, for example, is so tight and smooth - it is ridiculous. I mean, it's sad that her 65 year old skin is smoother than my 21 year-old skin in places. But I don't care if she has had work done (or botox). It looks good.
Even if she looks 55 on screen, it is still plausible she had a 15 year old unless there is a plot device around it (e.g. high school pregnancy-drop out :P).
