I agree with Infinite that Wicked is a great starting point. A friend got me into Wicked, then encouraged me to branch out and learn about many other shows, including the (utterly brilliant)The Last Five Years, Hairspray, Big River rivival, Movin' Out, etc. I loved Wicked, it was great fun and I love the songs. I'm not as interested in it now, especially with the original cast gone. But I am very glad that it sparked an interest in musical theatre, which has led me to appreciate so many different performers.

It's their opinion, right? So....how does that affect who you are, or more importanly what you believe??

I haven't seen it, seeing it next month......so I'm not a "wickedite"........but I don't get why SO many people get weird when other people have a differeing opinion.

Go. Enjoy it. There's much to enjoy. Then come back and tell us what you liked/didn't like and WHY.

You can ignore anyone who posts messages like "I hate the show" or "it sux" but don't bother to back up their opinion. Sadly some of these people are just trying to stir things up. Read the messages from those who cite specific points that they liked/didn't like. As most people here have said, WICKED is not the world's greatest muscal. It's fun, entertaining and enjoyable. Is that really a bad thing for a musical?

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I haven't actually SEEN it, but I do like the cast album. I think the book is much better though, just don't read it before you see the show.

The thing about Wicked is that it isn't amazing the first time you hear the songs-the staging is better than the music.
A personal irratation I have with it is the discrepancies between the books messages and those of the musical, but that doesn't effect quality. It was good, but not outstanding, and so the overhype makes everyone a little more irritated at it. It's good, but not genius.

In an interview, Schwartz said that they didn't stress the points of the book so it would be more family friendly....

i like wicked. i'm not super-obsessed, painting myself green every morning over it..but i enjoy it.

i went to see it a few weeks ago, and i found it incredibly entertaining. just in terms of dance/energy..i was never really bored. (well, i was once...but that's it!) and (i'm wierd, i have a thing for colors..) it was visually very interesting. i loved the lights and the effects, i thought it was great.

and yes, the teeny bopper fans are incredibly annoying. i sat behind 25 girls who came together. (no joke, they took up this giant blob) and they were even singing along with some of the songs - that's what i don't like about wicked. yes - it's a fun musical. but it's not THE MUSICAL OF ALL MUSICALS FOR EVER AND EVER AMEN...it's really not.

I felt and still feel that Joel Grey and Kristin Chenoweth were the only real great assets to the show..... They both did amazing jobs...... i mean i think the book was boring, the music was ok..... Wicked was created to be a spectical not an ARTISTIC push the boundaries peice of theatre.....

Kristin was the only reason i saw it

Question.....are the fans still as rabid as they were last year at the stage door? I saw it last April and I was amazed at how obssesed these people were. I had seen the posts here, but in person it was just....amazing. I wanted to catch a glimpse of Joel Grey but gave up because the fans were just getting a bit on my nerves!!!

I like "Wicked". It was a nice little show with a hummable score and good lead performances. I'm not sure why people are rabid over it, though. The fans don't bother me at all.
