In all fairness to iHo, the Public Theater itself calls it iHo.

I.T.A. (I totally agree.) from RC in Austin, Texas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

And it's not an acronym. And, in this case, some sort of abbreviation or acronym is actually helpful because the title is really long.

Based on the definitions given on the link below, I think iHo is an acronym. (You say it like "eye-hoe," right? At least that's how I imagine it. :)) I don't think things like H2$ or CMIYC are acronyms, though, because they're read out as individual letters instead of being treated as words.

Honestly, when I read something like CMIYC or H2$, my mind just automatically reads it as what it's standing for. I don't read it as 'Cee Em Eye Why Cee', much less say it out loud that way.

WOTVOANB along with SITPWG and things of that nature, are simply absurd. Took me a good 5 minutes to figure out what they were the first time I saw them.

Acronyms, in my opinion, only work under 3 conditions.

1. The show title itself isn't already bite-sized.
2. There's not a more logical abbreviation "SITPWG" versus "Sunday."
3. The show is discussed enough that the acronym will seem logical and easily understood, and not need huge explanation with it.

I Goggled 'SITPWG' after going through every current Broadway show and look what came up first.

Anyway I have no problem using uncommon acronyms as Long as the acronyms in full has been used earlier in the thread.

I agree fully with darquegk.

I think mostly everyone here is familiar with enough shows that we can identify what show you (whoever might read this post) with using only a few words. I personally try to minimize my usage of acronyms to ones immediately recognizable to this community. Besides having something in all caps in the middle of a sentence is very disruptive to readers, I feel. Anyway, the acronym I really use a lot is BoM because it's not in all caps.

I like your imperturbable perspicacity.
