At least for the next two years, have we seen the last of the jukebox musical? I can't think of any planned shows for the time being...

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

What's up with the Barry Manillow show that he was planning on bringing to NY? Was it Copacabana?

Barry Manillow was connected to 2 shows .. Harmony and Copacabana. Neither are juke box musicals.

And of course we have not seen the last of them. After 9 decades of them why stop now!

Uh, I think, Tharpes' Dylan show would qualify as a jukebox musical...

Ain't No Mountain High Enough was planned to be the last show this season at the Ahmanson, but it got postponed. Still, it's out there.

i think we might be seeing the last of them
if TIMES THEY ARE... flops, i think producers might be beginning to realize most jukebox musicals are bad and flop (with the exception of MAMMA MIA! and JERSEY BOYS)

Most musicals flop, darling! Does that mean we will stop seeing them all together?
