I bet LaChanze was fierce in the role. I love that women.

Well no offense to hear, but there's not that many leading roles for her on Broadway. She's an African-American women and as horrible as it sounds, there's not that much work for her. I hope that doesn't come across bad, but I can understand why she would want to pursue other options. She's got an incredible voice so why not profit off it? Shoshana Bean did the same thing. She's "done with theater" and pursing a recording contract.

Does anyone have video of her saying this or was it a written article. it is hard to believe anything you read in print.

That's what I was thinking NYC4Life because if it was written, it can very easily be taken the wrong way.

Are we still talking about Aida, because if so, LaChanze (quite sadly) never played the role. I'd also read Heather Headley's comment about being finished with theatre after her Tony win, and interpreted it similarly. Regardless, she's ridiculously talented. I saw 'Aida' twice on Broadway, and neither of the actresses I saw in the title role did justice to Heather Headley's origination of the role (at least vocally), though Saycon Sengbloh came close. Simone didn't even attempt the high F at the end of "Dance of the Robe," which, in my opinion, is one of Headley's strengths on the OBC.

Gaw, I wish I could find my OBC.

Oh, I always thought LaChanze tackled the role. Oh well, she would have been fierce. Thanks for the info.

Perhaps Heather Headley wasn't the best actress to play Aida, let alone the best actress of the season she won the Tony, but when you saw her perform in the role you knew a star was being born, she had star quality to her and her voice just blew you away. I've seen the show other times after her and haven't seen anyone in the title role who commands as much attention and who embodies the character as well as Headley did. She's also a highlight of the Dreamgirls Concert Recording.

I also know I remember Sherie Rene Scott saying that she was offended and hurt by the remarks that Heather made.

"Simone didn't even attempt the high F at the end of "Dance of the Robe," which, in my opinion, is one of Headley's strengths on the OBC."

With the exception of Deborah Cox, none of the other Aida's after Headley went for that note on a regular basis.

"I also know I remember Sherie Rene Scott saying that she was offended and hurt by the remarks that Heather made."

I remember that as well. I REALLY wish I could dig up the article, but I'm having no luck.

"neither of the actresses I saw in the title role did justice to Heather Headley's origination of the role (at least vocally), though Saycon Sengbloh came close."

I'll agree about the vocals. Speaking strictly on voice, Deborah Cox and Simone came the closest. Cox was also a fine actress, but Simone most definitely wasn't. On acting alone, Maya Days and Merle Dandridge probably came the closest.

She doesn't exactly say that she was offended and hurt by those remarks in particular, although she mentioned them saying that she "was happy [Heather] deemed it pleasant." Sherie also mentions that Heather apparently turned inexplicably cold on her at one point. Wonder what that was all about.

I remember reading the remarks. It was during an interview I think.

Saw Heather in both Lion King and Aida. She is amazing. I would love for her to come back to Broadway!

Why do I see this same story re-emerging in about 3 years for Shoshana Bean?

Seems like she pretty much said the same thing.

Hmmmmm....

I know, just sayin'. re: Heather Headly wants to get back on stage

I think Shoshana will, though, come back with her tail between her legs after not making it elsewhere, begrudginly so, rather than saying she'd like to get back into the theatre.

I just don't get those who say Heather can't act.

Who else makes an audience die laughing, and 8 seconds later has them sobbing? Did you see her sing "Easy as Life"?

She may not be as subtle as, say, Julia Roberts. But, it's a stage show.

I guess I should just remember that those who say she's not a good actor usually are Method students or those who rely on the opinion of Method folks.

touchmeinthemorning,

I'm really fond of Heather but think that she's a bit overrated as a singer. To me, her voice lacks nuance and subtlety when the material dictates restraint. I saw her in 'Aida' 2x and bought her debut solo album. She's got a healthy Broadway belt but at times it's too full throttle and it has been noted by folks in attendance of her live performances post-Aida that she is prone to have pitch problems ala Mary J Blige, though it's hardly fair to compare the two. I defer to all the method acting students in regard to her acting ability LOL.

Heather faced a lot of competition out there in R&B land from the hordes of lace front wig-wearing booty-shaking blinged-out hotties tryna make the grade who didn't have the benefit of a Tony Award and captive audience with which to jumpstart their singing careers. She parlayed her Broadway success into a Grammy nomination her first time out a feat many seasoned recording acts never accomplish. Good start notwithstanding, success in R&B land is rather fleeting these days. Six months out, her follow up set hasn’t so much as made a ripple and Hollywood ain’t beating a path to her door either. In ‘hood parlance’ her 15 are up and she ain’t the “ish” no mo’…ya feel me! Mama tryna get back to nibble on ‘dat cheddar.

*giggles* I think it's admarable that she sacraficed selling well to do classy R&B music. I enjoyed her first album ALOT. Her second one isn't as good ,but her voice still blows me away.

I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

She could do something in THE COLOR PURPLE or the LION KING. Both are ethnic shows.

"While she has a great and unique voice, I found her acting leaving much to be desired.

Out of the 3 Aidas I saw during the run, she was without a doubt my least favorite."

When I saw her in it, she seemed like she was trying to mimmick Jesse Jackson's speech patterns.
