Hedwig at the Nederlander?

Posted: 4/5/08 at 10:11pmSo says the theatre gossip thread at Datalounge. Limited 10th anniversary run at the Nederlander, following Rent. The post says it will be announced within the next two weeks. I guess that would mean the theatre would stay a wreck for a little while longer...

I know it's still
a rumor.

Posted: 4/5/08 at 10:55pmWe were thinking of some great shows that could replace Rent and this came up. Perfect choice and perfect space. I also would love a Tick, Tick, Boom! mounting.

Posted: 4/5/08 at 11:26pmWhat is the largest space this show has ever played? I've only seen it in intimate settings. Can it really be as effective in a 1200 seat facility?

Posted: 4/5/08 at 11:41pmIf they are doing a special 10th anniversary run, why would you assume they would pick an actor that did the role at a small regional theatre in Pittsburgh over the original- or even other actors that performed the role in much higher profile productions?
Wanting life but never knowing how

" Can it really be as effective in a 1200 seat facility?"
History has taught us that no, it can't. When the show ran in L.A., Boston and London, the larger venues bore much of blame for the early closings.
The Jane St. Theatre, where it ran for 2 years, had a capacity of 300.

Let's say JCM were to come back for a while to open it up again.
How would you guys feel about Neil Patrick Harris taking over afterward?

This is the best news this year, if true !!! Not sure if the house is intimate enough (nothing could top the Jane Street), but still great news !!
I will take anyone that played the role in the past, with the exception of Ally Sheedy !!!

Amen! However, she wasn't really playing the role!

If this is so it's amazing news! I was wondering when this was gonna make a triumphant return. I also think the size of the theatre might hamper the show, but the rundown look of it might lessen the extra space.
I'll definatly hafta find a way up to see it if JCM reprises.

Really do wonder what wonderful piece of casting they'll come up with for the title role. Perhaps John Cameron Mitchell will indeed reprise his performance.
Great news, hope it comes through.

Posted: 4/6/08 at 1:52amIf this is true, I would think that's probably why they chose the Nederlander in the first place. The derelict appeal of it seems appropriate.
