Hello, Dolly! at the Magic Kingdom
Hello, Dolly! at the Magic Kingdom#0

After the stress, fun, and sleep-lacking week of the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Orlando, I decided to take a day to sleep then a day to go to Disney World. At the Magic Kingdom, the loudspeakers in front of the castle played several score-only tracks from HELLO, DOLLY! including "Before The Parade Passes By," "Elegance," "Sunday Clothes," and others.
I'd expected songs from classic and contemporary animated films. I'd expect even songs from High School Musical. But Disney plays HELLO, DOLLY! Amazing. Shocked. Glad. Damn straight.

They've been playing those songs up and down Main Street (not just in front of the castle) since 1971 (earlier in Disneyland, obviously). The tracks are performed by the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra. You can buy the CD's through Amazon, of if you'd like copies, I have almost the entire background music loop.
They also play stuff from Oklahoma, in addition to other movie songs (The Happiest Millionaire and Summer Magic come to mind first).
Nothing new, this has been common knowledge among Disney fans forever.
I'm a huge Disney Park Audio fan - so this is right up my alley.

One of my routines whenever I visit the Magic Kingdom is to dress in Dollypop red and get there early in the morning. I quickly get on the trolly (which I've named "the Gallagher Levi Special") that runs only when crowds are sparse and rides down to Cinderella's castle. I wave to the passersby and hum "Call On Dolly!" but I have ALWAYS heard the HELLO, DOLLY! medley playing on the PA system.
On Main Street USA I've heard music from THE MUSIC MAN and OKLAHOMA! as well. I think their music is considered "Americana".
This was also true of the Mains Street USA in Disneyland Paris.
PS--Once I get to the Cinderella Castle I rush through it to get on line for Peter Pan's Flight. It's my favorite attraction there.

I always do Peter Pan's Flight first as well, then run to do Splash Mountain then Thunder Mountain Railroad. Then I hop across to Tomorrowland and work my way counterclockwise.
WDW should play Newsies music. Or have a Newsies stage show.

Posted: 3/8/06 at 7:04pmYay! Disneyland! lol well, Dworld for you. Yeah I love going down main street and hearing Dolly songs. Last year I went with my high school choir and dance group and some of us were doing the musical at school so it was very fun singing along with it.

"Last year I went with my high school choir and dance group and some of us were doing the musical at school so it was very fun singing along with it."
Whew! Is that awkward sentence structure or what?

Posted: 3/8/06 at 7:37pmI know: I heard it. Awesome arrangement. I'm a big Disney theme park fan, in fact I am here in Orlando right now. They also do a good "Music Man" medley (Gary Indiana/Wells Fargo Wagon/Lida Rose/Iowa Stubborn) as well as an "Oklahoma" medley. I forgot what that was... check...

I'll be hearing the loop a lot come June. I got accepted into the Disney College Program (though I'll be a college grad at that point) and will be working at the parks until January. Stop by and visit if you'll be at the parks this summer/fall.

Of course now Disney owns 20th Century Fox, so Dolly Levi is now a Disney Princess!

There have been many people who have long believed Anastasia is a Disney princess. Yes, the Mandela Effect is real.
I will also admit "Disney Princess Dolly Gallagher Levi" has a nice ring to it.
Anyway, back to the main point of this thread, I last visited the Magic Kingdom in January of last year. It's just such a wonderful feeling walking down Main Street as "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" starts playing.
