So I will be taking my first trip to New York in June and I HAVE TO SEE A BROADWAY SHOW !! I'm going with a group of friends from college who have only agreed to go see ONE show with me . Which show do you all recommend for us to see . I'm determined to see Wicked, Les Mis & Color Purple with or without them lol but what do you all think a bunch of senior girls in college would enjoy seeing

From your list I would say don't miss the Color Purple. If you're looking for additional shows beyond that to see with your friends, Waitress is a good one but She Loves Me would also be great for a girls' night out. I also loved both Bright Star and American Psycho but those are two very different shows, neither is for everyone, and it depends on if you like that kind of music (bluegrass/folk and 80s synth pop, respectively).

CYNTHIA ERIVO IN THE COLOR PURPLE. If not then RACHEL TUCKER IN WICKED. While you're in New York you cannot go back home without getting to see at least one of them live.

All good suggestions, but for first time in NY and Bway, I would say King and I, for a sheer jaw dropping "event". It s on TDF right now for multiple dates. An incredible bargain! Have fun, wherever you go. Maybe you could squeeze in a 2nd show.

I would have to say I agree with seeing Cynthia Erivo live but I would add that seeing Jessie Mueller live is not to be missed either...

I would also agree with Waitress. The show itself should be right up your alley, and your friends, who aren't musical theater fans by the sounds of it, will probably appreciate that the music is written by Sara Bareilles, whom they have heard on the radio.
You could also go with Wicked though. The show is a bit more of a classic musical than Waitress, in terms that it has a spectacular set and costumes. It looks and sounds a bit more "musical" than Waitress. I don't know what the ticket situation is these days, last time I checked Wicked tickets were very expensive still, and there aren't any discounts, unlike for Waitress. And you can always see it on tour, too, if you live near where Broadway tours come through.
Kinky Boots might also be a show collage students will enjoy!

If they have a good sense of humor, I recommend the Book of Mormon. It's a 2 hour show of straight laughing, especially if they've never heard it before.

For first timers to Broadway, I suggest the classic broadway hits like Wicked, Book of Mormon, Les Miserables, Lion King and King & I (or other musicals that mainstream America have heard of.) After all, when you go back home and tell you friends about your NYC trip, one of the first questions tend to be which Broadway show you saw or ... did you get to see Wicked? Lion King? etc.
I think Color Purple and Waitress are great musicals too but for your college gal friends, a more mainstream classic bway show may be more appreciated. I'd add Jersey Boys in the mix too. If you have the $$$, go for Hamilton. That's the hot show at the moment.

Wicked tickets are still pretty expensive, yes. I will say, though, while Rachel Tucker is absolutely brilliant she seemed to be out for a decent amount of shows. I'm not sure what her attendance has been like recently, but I wouldn't exactly count on her being there if you're planning on seeing her. If you do catch her, though, her voice might be enough to bring you to tears. Chills, at the very least. :)
Other than Wicked, Waitress and Book of Mormon might be good options. I don't know much about Waitress but it does seem like a good show that fits your criteria.

Well, I noticed you said they "agreed to see one show with me". Do your fiends have to see a show? If they don't want to see a show then go see what you want.

See Wicked with your friends! It is Big Broadway at it's best, and has been a crowd pleaser that has filled the house for years. My 27 yr old daughter says it is still her favorite, and could see it again . She has seen it 4 times! Waitress is an enjoyable show and Sara's music is good but not memorable. In my opinion, I would not put it on top of the list for the whole group to see if they are only seeing one show. The book is limiting, and as seniors in college, why see a show about a woman stuck in an abusive relationship?? Yes, Jessie is great in it, but it is a show that is small in scale. You would probably like it on your own. To experience broadway, see something big and flashy. I'm with you, my friends usually only want to see 1 show, and I want to see 3. Definitely, see as much as you can with or without them. I highly recommend On Your Feet. Fun, energetic, we all loved it and walked out of the theater saying we could turn around and see it again! Kinky Boots and School of Rock are a lot of fun as well. Haven't seen the Color Purple but I would like to.

Of your list -- COLOR PURPLE. I've been seeing Broadway for 50 years, and it's one of the most riveting performances I've ever seen. Months later, I still cant get it out of my mind.
